GAVR-12A Universal Automatic Voltage Regulator Module: Complete Technical Guide
On this page
What is the GAVR-12A?
The GAVR-12A is a universal 7 A half-wave self-excited automatic voltage regulator (AVR) for brushless generators — the module that holds the generator's output voltage flat as load moves around. The spec card shipped in the box states it directly: Universal 7 Amp 1/2 Wave Self Excited, Dip-Switch Programmable Automatic Voltage Regulator, with regulation under ±1% and a 220/400 VAC programmable input. Each unit is a sealed black case with six screw terminals (N, F+, F-, T, R1, R2) and a finned output stage. This record covers three identical units, each in its own factory box labelled Qty: 1 — PART No. PG36658Q2/G, Serial No. 60206/1035, box weight 0.315 kg, volume 13.3 × 9.5 × 6.2 cm — intake recorded 10 July 2025. Seven photos and an inspection video show these exact units, boards out of the case.

Values are read from the spec card, the box labels and the photographed boards; the DIP-switch programmable input range is the card's stated feature set.
Why the universal AVR earns its shelf space
Self-excited brushless generators take their exciter power from the main stator through R1/R2, sense the output on N and T, and push field current out of F+/F- — which is exactly the terminal set this module exposes. That makes the GAVR-12A the drop-in part when the original regulator dies on a generator whose brand AVR is discontinued or overpriced: set the input range with the DIP bank, trim VOLT to the nameplate voltage, trim STAB until the engine-loaded output stops hunting, and the set is back on line. The card's under-±1% regulation figure is the class target for this topology, and the half-wave output stage under its finned block is what keeps a 7 A field fed from a board this size.
The three units in this record are identical builds, each with the Q.C. OK sticker still on the board: green solder mask, blue trimmers, the DIP block at the pot row, and the power path — bridge module, MKP62 X2 film capacitor, electrolytic — arranged along the terminal edge. One board carries the GAVR-12B/A silkscreen with the 57B5V3.0 revision, the case halves screw together with grommeted mounting ears, and every box carries the same PART No. PG36658Q2/G and Serial No. 60206/1035 label. For a regulated set that keeps tripping its AVR, a spare of this class rides in the tool box and swaps in within the hour.
