VEXTA GFS2G20 Motor Reducer: Complete Guide for Industrial Automation Applications
On this page
What this delivery is: three Oriental Motor VEXTA GFS2G20 flat gear heads, brand new in unopened Oriental Motor cartons but from older shop stock, made in Japan, one-year warranty, received 2026-01-30. The GFS2G20 is the gearbox half of a gear motor — you bolt it onto the front of a mating Oriental Motor, and the motor's fast low-torque rotation comes out of the gear head's keyed output shaft slow and strong. The trailing 20 in the part number is the gear ratio, 1:20 by Oriental Motor's naming convention, which is the ratio range where speed drops enough for positioning and conveyance duty while torque multiplies by roughly the same factor.
What the labels say
The unit's own nameplate reads: MODEL GFS2G20, the VEXTA brand block with the yellow GEAR HEAD band, ORIENTAL MOTOR CO., LTD., MADE IN JAPAN, base code TT9 1C20203, and a QR code. The three cartons carry the same layout — MODEL GFS2G20, Contents / Note fields, barcode, QR, ORIENTAL MOTOR CO., LTD., MADE IN JAPAN — with base codes RU9 01715 on two boxes and SY9 1907323 on the third, so the lot is three individually boxed units rather than a repack.

Where it sits in a drive train
A flat gear head like this is chosen when panel depth is tight — the motor bolts directly to the gear head's back face instead of hanging a cylindrical inline gearbox off the shaft, so the whole drive stays one short block. The motor side (the second photo) is a plain circular face with a centring pilot and a sleeve for the motor's pinion shaft: the motor's shaft gears into the head's first stage, and reduction happens inside the black housing. The output side is the polished steel shaft with its keyway slot, running in bearings carried by the square flange — that flange is what bolts to the machine: a belt pulley, a cam, a lead-screw driver, an indexing dial. Because the gear head carries the machine load while the motor only carries torque through the gear set, sizing the pair is about matching the motor frame to the head's rated torque — and the GFS2G20's flat square form follows Oriental Motor's standard frame family, so the pairing is a catalogue selection rather than custom work.
The units are unused — factory grease still sits in the output bore, shafts turn cleanly, and the cartons are the original ones with their serial-level base codes intact. As older shelf stock they may show minor carton wear; the gear heads themselves are as shipped from Japan.
