Mitsubishi CM1000HA-24H: IGBT module replacement checks

Historical parts record: Photos and notes below belong to this record. Confirm the offered unit’s full model, condition and available test evidence before ordering.

What this delivery is: ten Mitsubishi CM1000HA-24H IGBT modules, refurbished, three-month warranty, received 2026-02-02, 1.65 kg each. These are single-switch giants: one 1000 A, 1200 V insulated-gate transistor with its freewheeling diode in each square black package — the class of switch that lives in high-power inverters, large drives, induction heating, welding and UPS stages. The label on each unit says it plainly: TYPE CM1000HA-24H, NO. S23AH9, MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC CORPORATION JAPAN, with the E-G-C circuit sketch — emitter, gate, collector and the anti-parallel diode — drawn beside it. The lot photographs show all ten together, which is a full bridge-and-a-half of switching for a large power build, or a decade of spares for a big repair shop.

Reading the module

The package is Mitsubishi's large square format: black moulded shell with the CM family mark cast into the top, two heavy bolt-on power terminals — emitter and collector — sized for the lugs a 1000-ampere circuit demands, gate and auxiliary connections at the side, and a flat plated copper baseplate on four mounting holes for the heatsink. Each module ships with a copper link strapped across its gate-emitter terminals: that is the factory shorting bar, holding the gate at the emitter potential so static cannot float the gate and partially turn the device on while it waits on a shelf. The circuit sketch on the label is the buyer's check: one IGBT, one diode, three terminals — a single switch, not a bridge. The S23AH9 number beneath the type is the production code; these units are refurbished stock, so we pass the grade on as recorded rather than calling them new.

What ten of them build

At this current class, the switch — not the control — is the design problem. A 1000 A, 1200 V device handles the kind of power where every microsecond of switching transition is hundreds of watts, so these modules go into circuits with heavy busbars, snubbers and gate drivers built for them: large VFD input stages, electroplating and induction power supplies, DC choppers, electric-furnace controls, the output stages of big UPS systems. Six of them make a three-phase bridge with a spare philosophy; ten covers a bridge plus replenishment. Buying refurbished at this level is the standard move — these are slow-cycle, high-value devices whose wear is measurable (a curve trace and a megger check tell most of the story) and whose new price reflects a production run most shops will never see. The shorting bars stay on until the module is mounted and the gate leads are about to land; that single habit protects more of these switches than any other.
