High-Temperature Grease Selection for Industrial Applications

High-Temperature Grease Selection

Operating temperature is one of the most critical factors in grease selection. As temperature increases, grease life decreases exponentially — a rule of thumb is that grease life halves for every 15°C increase above 70°C. Selecting the right high-temperature grease can mean the difference between reliable operation and catastrophic bearing failure.

PFPE (perfluoropolyether, a chemically inert synthetic base oil used for extreme-temperature and aggressive-chemical applications)/PTFE 250-260°C Extreme temperature, chemical resistance, oxygen service

> Tip

A rule of thumb: for every 15°C increase above 70°C, grease life is cut in half. If your bearing housing is too hot to touch comfortably, check your lubrication — you may be over-greasing or using the wrong product.
