TOSOKU HM115 4-Axis Manual Pulser Generator: Complete Guide for CNC Machine Control

What this delivery is: a TOSOKU HM115 four-axis manual pulse generator — the CNC handwheel Toshiba-market operators know as the handy controller — brand new in its box with a one-year warranty per the record, 1 kg, received stock uploaded 2025-11-19. The back plate names it plainly: HANDY CONTROLLER / TYPE HM115. This is the genuine TOSOKU layout, not a clone of it: red RESET mushroom on its yellow plate, axis selector, multiply selector, the 100-detent handwheel with the Tosoku wordmark, and the side enable slide, all on the black rubberised body with the carry handle.

Reading the controller

The face runs top to bottom: the RESET mushroom (emergency reset for the host control, arrows printed around the cap), then the brushed-aluminium panel with the two selectors — axis choose across OFF / X / Y / Z / 4 and magnification across ×1 / ×10 / ×100 — with a small centre window between them, and the handwheel below, detented at 100 clicks per revolution with the Tosoku logo on the cap. A slide switch on the left flank is the enable: the wheel outputs nothing until it is held or latched, which is the safety interlock that keeps a parked handwheel from jogging an axis. The coiled cable tails into a stripped, labelled harness — each lead tagged L+ / L− (the pulse pair), SW (enable switch), X1 / X10 / X100 (multiplication), X / Y / Z / 4 (axis select), COM2 and the remaining commons — so the controller wires straight to a CNC I/O board without reverse-engineering the colour code. The body is the standard hanging style: carry handle on top, rubber feet for bench use, the whole unit about 1 kg.

Wiring notes

The labelled tails make this a board-level integration: pulse pair to the MPG inputs (L+ source, L− return), the multiplication and axis lines to the multiplexed inputs of the control (they read as a binary/gray combination on boards expecting one), SW to the enable input, commons to COM. If the host expects a 5 V pull-up, check the L+ polarity before first spin — handwheels are the one CNC input where a reversed pulse pair does not fault, it just runs the axis the wrong way. The 100-detent wheel gives one pulse per detent at ×1, so a full turn is one millimetre on a metric machine — the ×10 and ×100 positions are for rapid positioning, and the RESET mushroom lifts any alarm the control raised while the wheel was moving. For a compatible generic and spare leads, the storefront carries the HC115 four-axis MPG and the Tosoku AF-25W spiral cable.

HM115 face-on
Face-on: RESET mushroom on its yellow plate, the brushed panel with axis OFF/X/Y/Z/4 and multiply ×1/×10/×100 selectors, and the 100-detent Tosoku handwheel below — carry handle on top, coiled cable from the base.
Side view
From the side: the handwheel's detent ring, the RESET cap proud of the case, the rubber feet, and the coiled cable with its strain relief — the profile that hangs on a hook between jobs.

Labelled harness end
The harness end: stripped and tinned leads, each with its paper tag — Y, 4, COM2, L−, L+, SW, X1, X10, X100 — the wiring map made physical.
Cable and shield
The cable where it splits from the jacket: shield braid visible under the sheath, the tagged multi-core fan below — ready for a terminal strip, not a plug.
Handwheel detents
The handwheel in close: Tosoku wordmark on the cap, the detent ring numbered 10 through 90, centre spindle — 100 clicks to the turn.
Face detail without power
The selectors at rest: axis at OFF, multiply mid-scale, the centre window between them — the state the unit ships in.
Enable switch side
The left flank: the enable slide switch in its recess, the RESET mushroom and yellow plate above, carry handle behind — the safety side of the layout.
Unit in box
As unpacked: the controller in its carton with the coiled cable dressed beside it, harness tags (4, COM2, Y, NA, SW) showing at the box mouth.
Rear plate HANDY CONTROLLER
The rear plate: HANDY CONTROLLER / TYPE HM115 on the maker's label, six case screws around it, the coiled cable gland below — the model called out where a technician looks first.
Tagged leads close
The tagged leads again from the other side: COM2, X, Z and SW tags readable — every function on the face has its wire labelled at the far end.
Full unit with cable
The whole assembly laid out: controller, the coiled cable at length, and the labelled fan at the far end — everything that ships in the box, nothing extra, nothing missing.
RESET mushroom close
The RESET mushroom in close: arrows and RESET print around the cap on its yellow plate, the carry handle moulded behind — the detail that dates this as the classic HM-series layout.
