What is the Emerson BAE 2 HCA?
The BAE 2 HCA is an Emerson (Alco) thermal expansion valve, PCN 061955, sized at 2 tons over a −20 °F to +50 °F application range. It is a straight-through brass valve with 3/8" ODF solder inlet and 1/2" ODF solder outlet, an external 1/4" ODF equalizer connection, and a 30-inch capillary with the power sensing bulb. The box tab marks cover R290, R407F, R22 and R407C refrigerants. Each valve ships complete with its mounting strap (bracket X-31641-1) and fixing screw, and the Emerson box carries the TXV superheat adjustment chart on the flap. This record covers two new units, made in China; the intake record lists the pair at 1 kg. They passed through the Koeed warehouse on 7 April 2025; the photos below show them as received.

Installation notes
Solder the inlet and outlet with the valve wrapped in a wet rag — the power head sits right against the braze heat path, and an overheated power element is a silent killer that only shows up as hunting a week later. Strap the bulb to the suction line at the position the box chart shows, tight against clean copper, and insulate over it; a loose bulb reads the air, not the line. The external equalizer connects upstream of the bulb on the suction line, and the factory superheat setting on the HCA is adjusted per the chart under the box flap if your evaporator wants something other than the stock 6-8 °F.
