Klüber vs Mobil grease: how to assess an alternative

Can a Klüber-to-Mobil chart confirm an equivalent?

A brand-level chart cannot confirm a drop-in grease replacement. Compare two named products against the bearing requirements, formulation, viscosity and operating conditions, then verify compatibility and the changeover procedure. For example, Mobil Polyrex EM’s electric-motor application does not establish it as a replacement for either ISOFLEX NBU 15 or TOPAS NB 52.

Compare the product's intended use

Klüber describes ISOFLEX NBU 15 as a high-speed spindle-bearing grease. ISOFLEX TOPAS NB 52 has a broader rolling- and plain-bearing description. Mobil Polyrex EM is formulated for electric-motor bearings and uses a polyurea thickener.

These descriptions help select candidates for review. They do not establish Polyrex EM as a replacement for either ISOFLEX product, or either ISOFLEX grease as a replacement for Polyrex EM.

What an equivalent chart needs to show

What an equivalent chart needs to show
Check Evidence needed
Equipment requirement The lubricant named in the equipment instructions and any approved alternatives.
Formulation and viscosity Current product information for both greases, with viscosity values compared at the same temperature.
Operating conditions Bearing type, speed, load, temperature and exposure to water or other media.
Compatibility Advice or test evidence for the exact finished products and proposed changeover.
Special requirements Product-specific food-contact, material or other approvals where the application requires them.

Keep oils and greases in separate comparisons. A food-industry oil cannot be treated as a grease substitute merely because both products carry a food-contact registration.

Read compatibility claims within their scope

Mobil reports compatibility testing of Polyrex EM with specified categories of other greases using ASTM D6185 methodology and directs product-specific questions to its representative. That statement does not establish compatibility with every lithium-complex or polyurea product.

The same care applies to thickener names. Sharing a thickener family does not establish the performance of a mixture, and a general chart should not replace a changeover instruction for the machine.

Compare the cost of the proposed change

Use actual quotations for the required pack sizes and quantities. Include any cleaning, relubrication or maintenance work required by the proposed substitution. A lower purchase price does not show the total cost of implementing a change.

How to request a Klüber alternative review

Send the current lubricant's full name, the equipment requirement and the operating conditions. If you need a quotation for a specified Klüber product, include its exact name and quantity. KOEED's linked product listings provide a starting point for that enquiry.

Can I switch brands without cleaning the bearing?

Use the equipment and lubricant suppliers' changeover instructions for the exact products. The cited pages do not authorize a universal top-up or mixing procedure.

Identify the product for your enquiry

Send the lubricant currently specified, the exact product requested, pack size and quantity. Include operating conditions if the proposed alternative still requires technical approval.
