What is the Yaskawa SGDA-08AP?

The SGDA-08AP is a Yaskawa SERVOPACK from the Sigma servo family: a 750 W single-axis amplifier taking 200-230 V, 50/60 Hz single-phase input (5 A) and driving a servo motor at up to 4.4 A, with a motor base frequency of 200 Hz over a 0-300 Hz range and a 0-55 °C ambient rating. The side panel carries the pulse-reference and I/O connectors, the front warning label calls out the five-minute wait before servicing, and the label set includes the 5 kA RMS symmetrical supply caution. This record covers two new units, each in its original Yaskawa box with foam packing and the AC Servopack Sigma safety precautions manual (Type SGDV/SGDA). The units are made in Japan; the intake record lists the pair at about 2 kg per unit with a one-year warranty. They passed through the Koeed warehouse on 27 March 2025; the photos and video below show them as received.

Commissioning notes

The SGDA-08AP takes position or velocity commands as a pulse train, so wiring is the usual trio: main power to L1/L2 through a breaker sized for the 5 A input, the motor leads to the power connector, encoder into CN1, and the controller's pulse output into the reference input. Before first power-up, set the motor code so the drive knows the load, then run the inertia auto-tune; a Sigma amplifier on an unmatched gain set hunts audibly, so trust your ears over the manual's defaults. The five-minute warning on the front panel is real — the bus capacitors hold a painful charge long after the drive shuts down, and the single-phase supply on this frame makes the ripple worth respecting.
