02250046-882 + 02250046-883 Gear Set for Sullair Screw Air Compressor: Complete Technical Guide
On this page
What this delivery is: a matched gear set for Sullair screw air compressors — part numbers 02250046-882 and 02250046-883, one large gear and one small, bought and shipped as a pair — brand new, a domestic Chinese replacement built to the Sullair part geometry, 15 kg the set, received 2026-02-03. We say domestic replacement up front because that is what the record says and what the parts show: these are new gears cut to the 02250046-882/883 specification, not Sullair-original castings, and the price reflects that. What the photographs also show is a serious piece of gear work: helical teeth on both wheels, matched date stamps, keyed bores, and the steel engraved with the part numbers they replace.
What the parts are
In a Sullair oil-flooded screw compressor, the male and female rotors are driven through a timing gear set: the motor drives one rotor through the large gear, the small gear runs back-to-back with it and turns the second rotor, keeping the rotor threads synchronised without metal-to-metal contact in the compression chamber. This is a matched pair by design — the two gears are cut and marked together, and both wheels in this set carry the same stamp, 24-01-30, with the small gear additionally engraved 2011-659 as its production number. Both are helical: the teeth run at an angle across the face, which is what you want in a continuously running compressor drive — helical gearing engages gradually, runs quieter, and carries more torque for the same diameter than a spur equivalent. Each wheel is bored and keyed for its rotor shaft: the large gear 882 takes the driver, the small gear 883 the driven rotor, and the set is replaced as a unit because a worn pair replaced singly will never mesh quiet.

Why the pair matters
A gear set replacement is a major-event repair — the compressor's airend comes apart, the old gears press off, these press on, and the backlash is checked before the housing closes. Running a mismatched pair, or a single new gear against a worn partner, produces exactly the noise and tooth wear the replacement was meant to fix. That is why the parts are sold and shipped as a matched set, why both carry the same date stamp, and why the engraving matters when the set arrives: the marks let the fitter confirm the pair is from the same production run before anything is pressed on. As replacements, these gears take the position of the Sullair originals at a fraction of the price — the trade-off a maintenance shop makes on machines out of warranty, where the geometry is the standard and the logo is not. The two videos with this record show the set out of its kraft wrapping and turning in hand.
