What is the Advantech AIMB-742?

The AIMB-742 is Advantech's industrial ATX motherboard from the Socket 478 era: Intel 865G (Springdale-G) chipset with the ICH5 south bridge, four DDR DIMM slots in two channels, integrated Intel graphics on the rear panel, dual LAN, six PCI slots, dual IDE plus two SATA ports and an onboard CompactFlash socket — long-life components and driver stability designed into a 2004-vintage board, Rev. A2 in this record. It arrives as a used pull, tested working, with a processor still seated in the mPGA478 socket as photographed. All 15 photos and 1 video below show this exact board.

Why this platform still gets bought

Machines built around the AIMB-742 — test benches, CNC operator panels, inspection stations — keep running long after the board left Advantech's catalogue, and replacing the platform is far more expensive than replacing the board. This Rev. A2 carries the full period feature set: six PCI slots for the motion-control, frame-grabber and fieldbus cards those machines were designed around (the board predates PCI Express, which is exactly why legacy cards fit), dual-channel DDR memory, CompactFlash for solid-state boot drives with the master/slave jumper printed on the board, and dual Gigabit LAN for modern network integration. The rear panel keeps LPT and a serial COM port native — legacy I/O that later chipsets dropped. The tested pull ships with its seated processor visible in the photos, BIOS labelled V1.23, board date 04/11, and clean sockets and connectors throughout. For the newer end of Advantech's line, KOEED also carries the AIMB-769VG LGA775 motherboard.
