Rockwell Automation 309777-05 Industrial Automation Module - Complete Technical Overview
On this page
What is the 309777-05 cable?
A 5-metre Heidenhain-compatible encoder feedback cable, part-number group 309777, made in China as a new aftermarket unit — the cable that runs from a Heidenhain scale or encoder to the CNC's interface module (the -03 sibling of this part number is listed against the FANUC module A02B-0236-C205). One end carries a 12-pin metal circular connector with a keyway, the connection face used on Heidenhain encoder/scale ports; the other end is a numbered pigtail of colour-coded conductors ready for the drive cabinet. The cable itself is a green oil-resistant PUR jacket with a foil-shielded core group — the jacket print reads 4×0.5mm² + 2×0.34mm² · 3C · AWG STYLE 20554 · 80°C · 300V · DC30U RoHS · oil resistance · E326324. One piece, about 1 kg, new, recorded 24 November 2025. Six photos and a warehouse video below.

What to check before you plug it in
Encoder cables fail quietly — an axis that ghosts, alarms on acceleration, or loses reference counts is often a cracked conductor in a drag chain, which is why this 309777 line gets bought as a spare rather than waiting for the failure. Three things to verify on arrival. First, the pin count and keyway: the 12-pin keyed face matches the Heidenhain-side port, and forcing a mis-keyed connector bends pins you cannot see. Second, the wire colours on the pigtail: aftermarkets sometimes shift a colour against the original Heidenhain schedule, so land the pigtail by the printed sleeve numbers and the module's pin list, not from memory of the old cable. Third, the shield: the foil wrap and its drain wire must land on the module-side earth — an ungrounded shield turns the whole run into an antenna, and that shows up as counts jitter long before anything breaks. The PUR jacket in the photos is drag-chain grade and oil resistant, so it belongs on the moving axis, not zip-tied to a stationary conduit.
