What is the TECO CU-65R?

The CU-65R is a TECO three-pole AC contactor in the 65 A AC-3 class: Ith 100 A, rated to switch 18.5 kW motors at 220/230 V, 30 kW at 380/400 V and 37 kW at 660/690 V, with a 1000 V insulation rating and an E5 coil at 110 V 50/60 Hz. The UL side rates it Size 2 at 600 V AC — 20 to 50 hp by voltage. Reading the AC-3 table against the motor

The three-line kW table on the faceplate is the whole sizing exercise for this contactor. AC-3 is the duty of switching a motor already running — the inrush is the contactor's problem for a few cycles, the running current forever — and the table gives the motor power each voltage supports: 30 kW at the 380/400 V European standard, 18.5 kW at 220/230 V, 37 kW at 660/690 V, all inside 45-65 A of actual current. The UL side reads differently because UL Size 2 rates by horsepower: 50 hp at 480 or 600 V — a slightly more generous figure for the same contacts, which is normal between the two systems. The E5 coil at 110 V 50/60 Hz matches the control-transformer voltage common in both Asian and North American panels; other coil codes exist for other control voltages, and matching the coil — not just the contactor — is what a swap requires. The built-in 1 NO + 1 NC auxiliary handles the seal-in contact and the running lamp; the side-mount add-on blocks take it to the 2a2b configuration the box label lists.
