What is the Pioneer BDR-S09XLB?
The BDR-S09XLB is a Pioneer internal Blu-ray Disc writer — a SATA half-height 5.25-inch optical drive that burns BD-R/BD-RE (including the high-capacity BDXL discs, marked on the bezel) as well as DVD and CD, built under Pioneer's design with the rating label reading 12 V 2.2 A / 5 V 1.4 A, MADE IN CHINA, and manufacture date May 2022 (生产年月: 2022 年 05 月), serial OCDL011702CN. The certification block is complete: Class 1 laser product, FCC Part 15 and CAN ICES-3 (B)/NMB-3 (B), with Pioneer Digital Design and Manufacturing Corporation's Kawasaki address on the label. The drive ships as a kit: the drive itself in factory wrap, a Molex-to-SATA power adapter, a SATA data cable, and mounting screws. This record is one unit, new, intake recorded 20 January 2026, record weight 1 kg. Nine photos and an inspection video cover the bezel, the label, the SATA interface and the accessory kit.

Where an optical writer still earns a bay
Blu-ray remains the cheapest medium for archives that must survive decades without power: a 25 to 128 GB disc written once, stored on a shelf, and readable by any BD drive — no controller, no filesystem rot, no bit-flip risk the way spinning rust has. That is exactly the job this drive fills in an industrial setting: archiving batch records, machine programs and inspection imagery to M-DISC-compatible BD media, one write, cold storage. The BDXL marking on the bezel is the practical differentiator — 100 GB quad-layer and 128 GB quad-layer discs turn a spindles-and-boxes archive into a few discs per machine-year. The SATA interface is plug-and-play with any PC or industrial controller's spare port, and the Molex adapter in the kit covers older PSU rails.
The unit here is new stock — the factory wrap still on the chassis, the May 2022 date code and serial OCDL011702CN legible on the label, and the full accessory kit photographed in its bags. For a quality lab or a records office standing up a disc-archive station, the drive plus the cables in this kit is the complete bill of materials; nothing else is needed beyond the discs.
