SEW Eurodrive BMG2BMG4 Brake Pads: Comprehensive Guide for Industrial Motor Brakes
On this page
What is the SEW-EURODRIVE BMG2/4 friction disc?
These are SEW-EURODRIVE brake friction discs for the BMG2/BMG4 brake series — the wear parts that sit inside a spring-applied motor brake and are the first thing to replace when a brake starts slipping. The pair photographed here is new original stock, and their castings self-identify: BMG2/4 and BE5A are engraved on the steel hub, meaning they are the discs for a BE5A brake — the 40 Nm SEW brake KOEED also has recorded. Each disc is a black friction-material ring bonded to a steel centre hub with an internal spline (about twenty teeth) that rides the brake's splined hub, retained by a spring circlip, with the friction facing riveted through six rivet points. Two discs per set, about 1 kg together; they passed through the Koeed warehouse on 29 October 2025 as new originals, and the eight photos and video below show them as received.

Replacing a brake disc
When a SEW brake starts slipping or the air gap will not return to spec, the friction disc is the wear part to renew. On a BE5A, the brake is removed from the motor, the circlip and worn disc come off the splined hub, and the new disc drops on spline-first before the brake is reassembled and the air gap reset to the SEW dimension. Match by the full identification: these hubs are engraved BMG2/4 with BE5A — if your brake casting says BE5A, this is the disc set. The photo set shows unworn friction faces with full rivet height and an undamaged spline, so a rebuilt brake using these discs starts from a known-fresh wear surface.
