What is the EPCOS B43586-S3468-Q3?

The B43586-S3468-Q3 is an EPCOS screw-terminal aluminium electrolytic capacitor rated 4600 µF at 385 V — the large DC-link can that sits in a variable-frequency drive or UPS to hold the bus voltage steady. It carries two M5 stud terminals on top (the Q3 terminal style, with the polarity band and the pressure vent beside them), a threaded mounting stud through the base, and EPCOS's 25/085/56 climatic marking; batch 08.23S dates this lot to August 2023. The record covers 15 capacitors, new in EPCOS cartons with foam-divider packing. All 12 photos and 1 video below show these exact units.

What a DC-link capacitor actually does

Between the rectifier and the inverter of a drive sits the DC bus, and this can is the bus. The rectifier output pulses at line frequency; the capacitor charges on each pulse and discharges between them, so the inverter sees DC instead of ripple. Every amp of motor current flows through this part, which is why the B43586 family is built the way it is — a large can with high ripple-current capability, stud terminals that take ring lugs under a nut, a base stud that clamps the can to the chassis so vibration cannot work the terminals loose, and a vent that opens safely if the electrolyte ever overheats. When a drive starts throwing bus-voltage faults or the can top domes, this is the part being replaced, and matching the exact ordering code matters: capacitance, voltage and terminal style all change the fit. At 4600 µF and 385 V, this unit serves mid-size drive and UPS bus sections. KOEED's EPCOS shelf holds sibling sizes, for example the B43456-S5129-M1 at 450 V / 12000 µF.

The lot as opened: fifteen cans standing on their heads, base mounting studs up, black sleeves and factory labels in place.
Fifteen capacitors top view
Base view of all fifteen: the threaded mounting stud centred on each can, and the white polarity band running down the sleeve.

Print and barcode detail
The full marking block: model, capacitance and tolerance, voltage, the 25/085/56 climatic code, batch 08.23S and the barcode 644106011947/EPX.
Base stud close-up
The base mounting stud and the "+" band in one frame — the stud bolts the can to the chassis so the terminals carry no mechanical load.
Fifteen capacitors upright
All fifteen upright: twin stud terminals on top of every can, uniform 08.23S batch across the lot.
Terminal face close-up
The terminal face in detail: two M5 studs (+ marked beside the upper one), the small pressure vent plug, and the +++/--- band marking polarity across the sleeve.
Three capacitors front
Three cans as they sit on the shelf: labels aligned, terminals and vents undamaged.
Fifteen upright full view
The complete fifteen upright on foam — matched batch, matched print.
EPCOS carton with foam dividers
The factory cartons opened: honeycomb foam dividers with each can wrapped in bubble film — the packing that keeps the cans upright in transit.
Label trio
Labels at eye level across three cans — the print quality of factory-original sleeves.
Terminals at angle
Terminal face at an angle: both studs clean and unmarked, vent intact, no dome in the can top.
