What is the HID VertX V100 door/reader interface?

A brand-new HID VertX™ V100 Door/Reader Interface, model 70100AEPON (the PoE-powered variant), firmware 6081-501-227, made in Mexico under the ASSA ABLOY group — the two-door interface node of HID's VertX access-control family, linking two card readers, door hardware and the VertX controller over RS-485. The silkscreen in the photos maps its whole capability: Reader 1 and Reader 2 terminal blocks (P1/P5: Data0/Data, Data1/Clock, Data Return, Green/Red LED, Buzzer, Hold-Card Press, Shield), inputs for Door Monitor and REX plus Tamper / AC Fail / Battery Fail, four relay outputs (two Strike, two Aux — all NO/C/NC), an RS-485 In/Out daisy chain with a termination block, a 12-way DIP address switch, and Power / Reset / Comm LEDs with Tx-Green / Rx-Red. The rating label says 12–18 V, 1 A max (PoE on this -EPON model), and the box carries the GENUINE HID PRODUCTS seal with the factory documentation and the bag of termination resistors. Recorded 24 November 2025, new and boxed, about 1 kg, one-year warranty. Seven photos plus the warehouse video below.

How the V100 sits in a VertX system

The VertX architecture splits brains from doors: the V1000/V2000 controller holds the decisions, and V100 nodes like this one sit near the doors they serve, wired to the controller over an RS-485 daisy chain — In from the previous node, Out to the next, with the termination resistor from the supplied bag installed only on the last node of the chain. Each V100 carries two reader ports and the full door hardware set for two openings, which is why installers buy them in pairs per corridor: wire the reader's Data0/Data1 (or Clock/Data for magstripe class) into P1, land the door monitor and request-to-exit on the inputs, land the strike on the Strike relay and any ancillary device (light, alarm shunt) on the Aux relay, set the DIP address, and the node reports to the controller. The Tamper / AC Fail / Battery Fail inputs are what make an audit trail honest — a door controller that cannot see its own power loss is half a security system. For maintenance buyers, the firmware line matters: this unit ships with FW 6081-501-227 printed, so check your VertX management software's supported firmware list before deploying, and note the PoE suffix — this -EPON model takes its power differently from the plain 70100AEP00, which is exactly the sort of detail that turns an install-day surprise into a non-event.
