Komax ACS204-A Dual Axis Servo Drive: Complete Technical Guide and Industrial Applications
On this page
What is the Komax ACS204-A?
The ACS204-A is a Komax dual-axis servo drive — two complete servo amplifier channels in one finned housing, type ACS204AK22, built by Komax AG (Industriestrasse 6, CH-6036 Dierikon, Switzerland) for their wire-processing machines. Each channel's rating plate reads the same figures: Input 3×230 VAC ±10%, Output 3×0…230 VAC / 1000 Hz, 2 A continuous / 4 A for 60 s — with serials 12012808 and 12012809 on the two plates of this single unit. The connection panel carries the whole drive interface: Motor power terminals (X17/X27), Encoder inputs (X16/X26, DB15), Digital I/O blocks (X15/X25), RS232 (X14/X24), Auxiliary ports (X13/X23, DB9), CAN 1 Mbit/s on RJ45 (X8/X9), a Security terminal block (X12/X22), the Power Supply block (PE, L1, L2, L3, DC+, DC−), and the Ready/Power/RCS/Error LED columns. This unit is one drive, used and graded 90% new with tested function per the record, intake recorded 19 January 2026, record weight 3 kg. Ten photos and an inspection video document both axis panels, the ratings and the heatsink.

Why the two-axis format earns its housing
Komax's wire-processing lines drive paired axes — feed and cut, bend and press — that start and stop in tight coordination, and putting both amplifiers in one housing is how the ACS204-A serves them: shared DC bus, shared cooling, one CAN segment for both channels, and the security block gating both axes from a single point. The per-axis ratings are modest by design — 2 A continuous, 4 A for sixty seconds, up to a 230 V three-phase motor at a 1000 Hz carrier — which is the right class for the small synchronous motors that move wire, blades and press heads at production rate. The 9-way Digital block per axis carries the machine's enable, homing and fault I/O without an interposing terminal rail, and the RS232 port is the setup window for commissioning.
The unit here is used stock in clean condition: the heatsink fins are unbent, both type plates are legible with consecutive serials, the blue covers carry their service seal, and every connector face is photographed — the two axis panels, the power block and the status LEDs. For a Komax line down on one axis or a workshop keeping a tested spare on the shelf, a drive with both channels intact and matched serials is the swap that restores the pair in one move.
