A replacement fuse must suit the circuit's voltage, interruption requirements and operating characteristics as well as its current rating. A time-delay fuse and a fast-acting fuse with the same ampere value can respond differently.

Start with the original fuse designation or the equipment manufacturer's specified replacement. For holders, adapters and packaged repair sets, see fuse kits and holders. Do not increase a fuse's current rating to prevent repeated operation; the cause of the fault needs to be resolved.
