Automotive HMI Technologies Market to Expand Through 2035

is entering 2026 with broader demand fundamentals, more disciplined procurement behaviour and a more regionally diversified supply architecture. A new IndexBox report published on 26 September 2026 projects continued expansion through 2035, with the software-defined cockpit named as the primary growth engine. For industrial operators, the signal is unambiguous: the same interface revolution reshap

Detail

HMI is no longer a hardware category. It is becoming a software platform layer, sold, updated and monetised independently of the machine it controls. Buyers who still treat HMIs as a commodity accessory are pricing the wrong thing.

The IndexBox findings arrive against a backdrop of aggressive forecasts across adjacent segments. The automotive HMI market alone is tracked at roughly USD 28.2 billion in 2025, with projections reaching USD 70.5 billion by 2035 at a 9.6% compound annual growth rate.

Underneath the headline number sits a structural shift. Software-defined vehicle architecture lets manufacturers decouple the interface from the hardware, enabling feature upgrades, licensing tiers and over-the-air refreshes. That is a business-model change as much as a technical one.

Figures reflect published third-party market forecasts and should be treated as directional, not definitive.

The automotive story does not exist in isolation. Industrial HMIs serve as the operator interface for PLCs and process-control systems, and they are being reshaped by the same forces: connectivity, visual richness and remote operation.

The industrial HMI operator panel segment is forecast to grow from roughly USD 2.63 billion in 2025 to USD 4.85 billion by 2032, a 9.6% CAGR. Embedded HMIs, prized for tight PLC integration and deterministic response, held 45.3% of that market in 2025. Touchscreens retained 70.4% share.

Augmented and virtual reality interfaces are scaling fastest in industrial HMI, expanding at roughly 17.62% CAGR. Emerging browser-based and MQTT-connected panels are steadily replacing single-purpose, vendor-locked terminals on the factory floor.
