CRYDOM CY8713 Power Supply Module: Comprehensive Guide for Industrial Automation Applications
On this page
What is the Crydom CY8713/C?
The CY8713/C is a Crydom (Sensata) power module in the epoxy-on-baseplate format: two stud terminals on top, a copper baseplate underneath, and a blue 0.47 µF / 1 kV snubber capacitor mounted right on the case — an RC network across the power path that absorbs the voltage spikes inductive loads throw back. The intake record books this lot as a China-made replacement build to the Crydom pattern, new; 12 units on the record, each photographed from the same shipment. Note on the listing title: the queue calls it a "power supply module" — it is a protected power semiconductor module, and that is what this page documents. All 7 photos and 1 video below show these exact units.

Why the capacitor rides on top
The blue box on this module is not decoration — it is the reason the module survives its load. A power semiconductor switching an inductive circuit (a solenoid, a contactor coil, a DC motor field) sees a voltage spike at every turn-off, and a spike that reaches avalanche kills the die. The 0.47 µF, 1 kV capacitor mounted across the module's power path is the snubber half of an RC network: it swallows the fast edge and lets the resistor bleed it away, so the semiconductor behind it never sees the peak. Crydom ships this style of module with the capacitor factory-mounted because the layout matters — short leads keep the snubber effective at the nanosecond scale where it counts. The copper baseplate is the thermal half of the design: bolted flat to a heatsink through its single hole, it carries the module's conduction losses away. Replacements in this format are matched by the ordering code and the snubber value together — the capacitor is part of the part. KOEED's Crydom shelf covers the wider family, including solid-state relays such as the D53TP50D-10.
