SULLAIR 88290015-049 Air Oil Separator: Complete Technical Guide and Performance Analysis
On this page
What is the 88290015-049 separator element?
A replacement air-oil separator element for Sullair screw compressors, part number 88290015-049 — the cartridge that strips the oil mist out of the compressed air leaving the airend and returns the oil to the circuit. This is a Chinese-made replacement (国产替代): a white glass-fibre pleated element with metal end caps, a red O-ring seated in the top recess for the housing seal, a centre outlet tube through the caps, and the grounding tab on the base — stamped 88290015-049 · DL01 on the bottom cap and labelled 油分 (oil separator) · QTY 1 on its box. Recorded 24 November 2025 at about 0.5 kg, new. Four photos below.

Two details that decide whether the swap works
The separator is the most temperature-stressed filter in a screw compressor, and replacement elements fail for reasons that have nothing to do with the media. First, the grounding tab: compressed air charging through glass fibre builds a real static charge, and the factory element bonds itself to the housing through that metal tab on the base — if the tab lands on paint or sits clear of its contact point, the element works but the housing charges up, and you get static discharge inside an oil-mist atmosphere. Seat the tab exactly as the old one sat. Second, the O-ring: the red seal in the top recess does the pressure sealing, and a dry or nicked ring weeps oil into the air line for weeks before anyone notices the separator is bypassing. Wipe the housing seat, lube the ring with a smear of compressor oil, and torque the element home evenly. Change intervals on a healthy machine run by hours of loaded run time, not calendar months — an oil-misted aftercooler or rising oil consumption is the separator telling you its coalescing layer is saturated, and this cartridge is the drop-in answer to that service call.
