and commissioning, HMI/SCADA configuration, industrial networking, motion control and robot integration. For small and mid-sized manufacturers worldwide, the signal is blunt , automation hardware is now easier to buy than the competence required to run it.
Korea already operates roughly 1,220 industrial robots per 10,000 manufacturing workers , the highest density on earth, according to IFR World Robotics data for 2024 , and has deployed tens of thousands of state-supported smart factories. The programme is deliberately short-cycle and employment-linked rather than academic. Trainees are recruited nationally through regional training consortia, complete an intensive job-focused course, then move into a supervised placement at a participating SME.
That design matters. Traditional engineering education produces graduates who understand control theory; shop floors need technicians who can open a project file, trace a fault to a specific I/O module and restore production before the shift ends.
