Cummins Speed Controller 3062322: Complete Technical Guide for Generator Engine Governors
On this page
What is the Cummins 3062322 speed controller?
The Cummins electronic speed controller (governor) for generator-set engines, part number CE 3062322, revision N — the gold-cast box that reads the magnetic pickup on the flywheel, compares engine speed against its setpoint, and drives the fuel actuator to hold frequency steady under load. The face plate carries the full wiring map: terminals 1/2 Battery (+/−), 3/4 ACT (actuator output), 5/6 MPU (magnetic pickup), 7/8 RMT SPEED (remote speed potentiometer), 9 IDLE with 10/11 COM (the idle/run switch contacts), a DAMPING A / B terminal pair along the bottom, the W503 / W103 jumper pair, two 0–100 trimmers, and the face legend naming the four adjustments: IDLE SPD · RUN SPD · GAIN · DROOP. Identification is printed twice: the face says P/N: 3062322 REV. N · S/N: 19332248 1404 under the Cummins "C", and the boxes label them PART NO. CE 3062322 — GENERATOR / CONTROLLER (two intake lots: one lot boxed with serial 20250602003VC0568, one with 19332248). Nine pieces recorded across two intakes (8 December 2025 and 2 March 2026), about 1 kg each, new, two-year warranty. Seventeen photos and two warehouse videos below.

Wiring it into a genset
The 3062322 is the classic three-wire-system governor: power from the starting battery on terminals 1/2, the fuel actuator on 3/4, and the engine speed signal from a magnetic pickup over the flywheel ring gear on 5/6. From there the controller does closed-loop speed control — that is what GAIN sets (how aggressively it corrects), DAMPING A/B selects between response profiles for stable or stiff engines, and DROOP shapes how much the speed falls as load rises, which is what lets two gensets share a bus without fighting. The idle/run function is simple and useful during commissioning: tie terminal 9 to COM through your switch and the engine holds the IDLE SPD setting; open it and the controller ramps to RUN SPD — the two trimmers therefore pre-set both speeds before the first start. Terminal 7/8 accepts a remote speed potentiometer for operators who trim frequency from the panel, and the W503/W103 jumpers select the internal configuration for the actuator class in use. Two habits from commissioning practice: mount the box away from exhaust heat but where the MPU wiring stays short and screened (the MPU signal is millivolts and picks up noise happily), and set GAIN up only until the engine starts to hunt, then back it off a quarter turn — the 3062322 will hold frequency well inside ISO 8528 limits when tuned that way.
