356029-YN-M — Tuthill Micro-Ion Plus Ionizing Bar (Pulsed DC, YN-M Length)
Tuthill Micro-Ion · Static Eliminator · 24V DC Pulsed DC · 90-Day Warranty
The 356029-YN-M is a catalog-length ionizing bar from the Tuthill Micro-Ion Plus family
(now marketed under the Amstat / Tuthill static-control umbrella). It uses a pulsed-DC corona discharge to neutralize
electrostatic charge on films, foils, paper, plastic sheet, and machined parts moving through converting, printing,
extrusion, and electronics assembly lines. The "YN-M" suffix specifies the bar's effective length and emitter spacing
for the install, and the "356029" root P/N identifies the Micro-Ion Plus mechanical and electrical platform. KOEED
stocks this part alongside the full
factory-automation spares catalog
and cross-references it against adjacent components from
Allen-Bradley,
Siemens,
Mitsubishi,
Omron,
Fanuc,
Schneider,
Yaskawa,
Panasonic, and
KEYENCE
so that a single
BOM
can cover both the static-elimination subsystem and the upstream PLC / servo / vision that drives the line.
Key Technical Specifications & Overview
The Micro-Ion Plus 356029 platform is engineered as a drop-in replacement for legacy Tuthill / Micro-Ion ionizing
bars on lines that already have a 24 V DC power and alarm wiring harness. The YN-M length variant is one of several
catalog lengths in the family, so the same electronics module is shared across bars of different effective widths.
Specifications below are derived from the published Tuthill Micro-Ion Plus datasheet family; for the exact value

Application Scenarios & Where It Fits
The Micro-Ion Plus 356029-YN-M is built for high-throughput industrial lines where uncontrolled static causes dust
attraction, misfeeds, print defects, sheet sticking, or ESD damage to downstream electronics. It is a passive
peripheral on the line — it has no PLC of its own, but it normally lives next to one. Typical co-located
equipment on the same machine or line includes:
-
Converting and slitting lines — film, foil, paper and label stock at high line speed. The bar sits just after the unwind, ahead of the slitter or printer, to discharge the web before the next process step.
-
Label printing and finishing — flexo, digital and hot-foil presses where static mis-registers artwork and lifts laminate.
-
Plastic sheet and film extrusion — calendered sheet, cast film, and thermoforming feed stock that can carry kilovolts of surface charge off the chill roll.
-
Electronics assembly and SMT — pick-and-place, AOI, and
KEYENCE CV-5000
vision cells where ESD on the board or component pocket causes placement errors or false AOI rejects.
-
Cleanroom tooling and medical device assembly — particulate control on isolator surfaces and trays.
-
Coil winding, web coating and laminating — corona-treated substrates and adhesive-coated webs that must be charge-stable before the next roller.
On multi-vendor lines you will usually find the bar wired into a
ControlLogix 1756-L73
or
Mitsubishi Q02HCPU
rack alongside a
Siemens S7-300 CPU
for legacy cells, with the cleanliness signal landing as a 4–20 mA analog input on a
SYSMAC CP1E
or an
Fanuc A06B servo amplifier
on a CNC retrofit. Browse the broader

Integration & Wiring Notes
The Micro-Ion Plus 356029-YN-M terminates at a multi-conductor shielded cable out of one end cap. The wiring
convention is straightforward but must follow the manufacturer's pinout, not a generic guess. KOEED
China sourcing
bench-tests each bar before shipment, and we document the measured high-voltage output on the test report
that ships with the unit.
-
Power pair — 24 V DC on a dedicated, fused 24 V branch from the panel PSU. Do not share the
DC bus with high-current 24 V loads (solenoids, brake resistors) that injects noise back into the bar.
-
Earth / chassis ground — the bar body and the cable shield must land on the same
protective-earth point as the host machine frame, not on a floating DIN-rail ground. Floating grounds are
the most common cause of "weak neutralization" complaints on field retrofits.
-
Cleanliness / alarm output — the 4–20 mA loop ties into the PLC analog input module
(for example a
Schneider BMXP342020
or a
Yaskawa SGDV
drive-side analog). The dry-contact alarm typically lands on a 24 V digital input on a
Panasonic FP0R
or equivalent compact PLC for line-stop interlocks.
-
Air supply (clean dry air, if optioned) — the bar can be specified with a purge-air
inlet for emitter-pin cleaning. Use instrument-quality air, dew point below −20 °C, oil-free.
-
Cable routing — keep the high-voltage cable at least 100 mm away from VFD motor
cables and servo power leads to avoid coupled noise. If you have to cross, cross at 90°.
For signal-conversion work — for example, mapping the 4–20 mA loop to a Modbus register on a
legacy controller — the
PLC Analog Calculator
and the
Modbus CRC Calculator
on the KOEED toolset cover the common engineering-unit math. If the fault is intermittent, the
PLC Error Code Database
is the fastest first stop.
Installation & Commissioning Tips
A clean install takes about 20–30 minutes per bar on a typical converting cell. Most field problems we see on
returned units are mechanical or wiring, not the bar itself.
-
Set distance-to-target first — mount the bar 25–75 mm from the web. Closer is not
always better; below 20 mm you risk arcing onto the substrate at high humidity drops.
-
Parallel to the web, not angled — the bar must run parallel to the target surface. A 2°
tilt can drop the neutralization efficiency by more than 30% at the far end.
-
Clean the emitters before power-up — a single isopropyl wipe on each titanium pin removes
the factory oil film that otherwise absorbs the corona and looks like a dead bar on first start.
-
Verify with a charged-plate monitor — before locking the panel door, sweep a handheld
electrostatic fieldmeter across the web at the bar's exit zone. You should see ±500 V or better within
50 mm of the bar.
-
Set the alarm threshold in the PLC — on the host controller, alarm on cleanliness-loop
drop > 25% of the commissioning baseline. That gives you a predictive window before the line starts
rejecting parts.
-
Document the install — record the bar's serial number, the host PLC tag (e.g. ION_BAR_3_CLEAN),
and the commissioning date. KOEED
real-time records
keep the matching shipment history for warranty lookups.
If the line is being retrofitted as part of a wider controls refresh, KOEED can quote the bar together with the
matching PLC, HMI, and servo drive. Send the line's full instrument list to our team and we will return a single
BOM quotation
covering the static-elimination hardware, the controls, and the cabling.
