Allen-Bradley PLC-5 processors use 1785 catalog numbers. Model endings such as those in 1785-L40B and 1785-L40E distinguish processor variants; the memory size alone does not establish an equivalent replacement.

For field input and output hardware, use 1771 I/O modules, which are separate from the processor. Preserve the processor's program and communication settings before removing a working unit.
