Mitsubishi HC-MF73K-D52 (HCMF73KD52) — 750W MELSERVO-J2S Servo Motor with Brake
Mitsubishi · MELSERVO-J2 / J2S · HC-MF Series · 750W Low-Inertia · In stock
The Mitsubishi HC-MF73K-D52 (model code HCMF73KD52) is a small-capacity
low-inertia AC servo motor from the MELSERVO-J2 / J2S HC-MF family. Rated at 750 W (1 HP)
on a 200 V three-phase bus, it spins up to a 3000 rpm rated speed and pairs
naturally with the MR-J2S-70A,
MR-J3-70A,
and MR-J2M
servo drives widely deployed across our
Mitsubishi
inventory. The "D52" suffix denotes the electromagnetic brake plus dedicated
connector / cable variant — a common pick for vertical-axis and load-holding duty on
pick-and-place heads, indexing tables, and small Z-axis slides.

Application Scenarios — Where the HC-MF73K-D52 Fits
The HC-MF73K-D52 is sized for the "in-between" duty cycle that sits above small stepper
or 200 W servo territory but below 1.5 kW industrial servos. Its low-inertia rotor gives
crisp acceleration, and the on-board holding brake removes the need for an external fail-safe
in vertical or inclined axes. Typical deployments include:
- Semiconductor pick-and-place heads, die bonders, and wafer-handling Z-axes
- Small CNC routers, PCB drilling / milling stations, and engravers
- Packaging lines — label applicators, sleeve wrappers, and horizontal form-fill-seal
- SMT pick-and-place feeders, vision-indexed conveyors, and dispenser slides
- Life-science lab automation — liquid-handler pipette heads, microplate stackers
- Indexing tables, dial machines, and rotary assembly turrets (with brake for indexed stop)
- Replacement of legacy HC-MF73 / HC-MF73B motors on aging MELSERVO-J2 cells
If your line mixes brands, KOEED carries a matching breadth of
Allen-Bradley
Kinetix servo motors,
Siemens
SIMOTICS S-1FL6 / 1FK7 servos,
Omron R88M units,
Fanuc
alpha/beta motors, and
Yaskawa
Sigma-7 / Sigma-V servos. We can also support
Schneider
Lexium, Panasonic
Minas A6, and KEYENCE
positioning modules on the same BOM.
Integration & Wiring Notes
The HC-MF73K-D52 is a drop-in companion for the MELSERVO-J2 / J2S amplifier family. The encoder
cable (typically MR-JCCBLNNNN) and the power cable (MR-PWCNK) are detachable, with the
"D52" suffix specifying the connector orientation and lead-out. The brake leads
share the motor power connector or a separate 2-pin brake plug depending on the cable option
ordered.
-
Encoder side: 131072 ppr incremental signals — A/B/Z phase, 5 V line driver. Use shielded twisted-pair and route away from VFD / brake contactor coils.
-
Brake power: 24 V DC, ~0.5 A typical; never switch the brake on the AC bus. Most MR-J2S amplifiers expose a dedicated brake release output for clean timing.
-
Drive pairing: For pulse-train / analog control use
MR-J2S-70A;
for SSCNET, the matching
MR-J2M
module pairs with an MR-J2-CR or MR-J2-MC controller head.
-
Regeneration: 750 W applications usually do not need an external regen resistor, but high-decel vertical axes benefit from a small MR-RB032 or MR-RB14 unit.
-
EMC: Earth the motor frame to the cabinet ground bus; route encoder / brake cables in a separate duct from power wiring.

Installation & Commissioning Tips
A small-capacity servo is forgiving to install but easy to damage by skipping torque checks.
Run through this short checklist before energizing the bus:
- Confirm shaft key is fully seated and the coupling is rated above the motor’s peak torque (typically 2.4× rated for HC-MF73K).
- Verify oil-seal orientation matches the IP rating on your panel. The standard HC-MF73K-D52 is IP65 (excluding shaft feed-through); order a J suffix for harsher washdown.
- Pre-load the drive with MR Configurator 2 (or the older MRZJW3-SETUP for J2/J2S) and reset to factory defaults before importing a project file.
- Auto-tune in "one-touch" mode after the load is coupled; do not run auto-tune on a free, uncoupled shaft.
- For vertical axes, energize the brake release before lifting the load, and add a hardware interlock on the brake contactor to prevent free-fall on power loss.
- Check the encoder battery / absolute backup only if you migrate to the HA-MF or HG-MR equivalent — the HC-MF73K-D52 ships with an incremental encoder that does not need a battery.
- Validate overshoot on a no-load move before connecting a fragile tooling holder; the low-inertia rotor can ring at the load resonance if the gain is too aggressive.
