Cherry D41Y-0-1A Subminiature Snap-Action Micro Switch — 0.1A 125/250VAC T85

Cherry (ZF) · D41Y Series · Snap-Action Limit Switch · In stock

The Cherry D41Y-0-1A is a subminiature snap-action micro switch originally developed by Cherry (now part of ZF Switches & Sensors, the German/US electromechanical specialist). The D41Y series is rated for low-current signaling at 0.1A / 125-250VAC with a T85 thermal class (max. surface temperature 85°C), giving design engineers a compact, long-life limit / interlock switch for door switches, vending detectors, alarm panels, gas valves, ATM, water dispensers and similar industrial automation applications.

Housed in a small-form factor case with SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) silver contacts, the D41Y-0-1A is purpose-built for signal-level switching rather than power load switching — making it an ideal complement to PLC input cards from Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Omron or Schneider when a clean dry-contact signal is required.

Datasheet figures above are taken from the public Cherry / ZF D41Y family datasheet; KOEED sources the part via the open distribution channel and tests each lot on intake. If you need a specific actuator variant (lever, roller, simulated roller) or a particular operating-force grade, send your requirement to Moritta@KOEED.COM and we will confirm availability, lead time and a competitive RFQ response within one business day.

Application Scenarios — Where the D41Y Fits

The Cherry D41Y is a long-life subminiature limit / interlock switch originally designed for white-goods and commercial equipment. Today it is widely cross-deployed into factory automation and process control cabinets wherever a low-current, dry-contact signal is needed. Typical deployments include:

  • Appliance & white-goods interlocks — microwave / oven door, washing-machine lid, dishwasher latch detection feeding a Mitsubishi MELSEC or Omron SYSMAC input.
  • Vending & kiosks — coin-detector end-of-travel, product pusher home position, door-open sense for ATM-style KEYENCE vision systems.
  • Security & alarm panels — door / window reed-style monitoring, panic-button position sense, cabinet-tamper detection.
  • Gas valves & HVAC — low-power position feedback for modulating valves and damper end-stops.
  • ATM, water dispenser, coffee machine — fluid-level limit, cup-detect, door-interlock signaling.
  • Medical device limit switch — infusion-pump home position, bed-rail latch, diagnostic equipment safety interlock.
  • Industrial machine guard interlock — paired with Allen-Bradley safety relays or Schneider Modicon safety controllers.
  • Automotive seatbelt / door / pedal position — where space is tight and 10M-cycle mechanical life matters.
  • Robotics & CNC tooling — tool-changer home detect, door-state feedback for Fanuc / Yaskawa cells.
  • General low-current signaling — any 24V / signal-level input to Panasonic FP / PLC discrete input cards.

Integration & Wiring Notes

The D41Y-0-1A is a signal-level switch. Wiring it into a 24V DC discrete input is the most common deployment, but a few engineering rules keep the contact reliable for the full 10M-cycle life.

  • Common (COM), Normally Open (NO), Normally Closed (NC). The D41Y exposes all three SPDT terminals — pick NO+COM for an "open when not pressed" input to a Allen-Bradley / Siemens input card, or NC+COM for a fail-safe interlock.
  • Use it for signals, not for power. 0.1A is the rated contact current. For pump / motor / solenoid switching, choose a power-rated micro switch (typically 5A / 10A / 16A). The D41Y is a clean dry-contact source for PLC inputs, not a load driver.
  • Add a flyback / suppressor on the load side if the D41Y is wired in series with an inductive coil (solenoid, relay coil). A 1N4007 or a 100nF + 100Ω snubber across the coil protects the silver contacts.
  • Respect T85. Surface temperature may not exceed 85°C. In an enclosed cabinet near Yaskawa / Panasonic servo amplifiers or frequency converters, leave ventilation clearance or derate.
  • Cable / shield. For long cable runs to a remote PLC rack, use a twisted pair and ground the shield at the cabinet end only. This prevents capacitive coupling from causing false triggers on high-impedance inputs.
  • Mounting pitch. Two M2 mounting screws on the standard 9.5mm pitch. Torque to ~0.25 N·m so the case does not crack. Over-torque is the most common field failure.
  • Contact debounce. The snap-action mechanism gives a clean bounce-free edge (typically <1 ms), so software debounce in the Omron / Schneider PLC scan is rarely required; 5 ms is a safe filter value when in doubt.

Installation & Commissioning Tips

The D41Y is small, but it is also precise. A few minutes of mechanical care during install saves weeks of intermittent-fault hunting later.

  1. Check the actuator travel. The plunger should travel to the recommended operating point (OP), not bottom out at the limit position. Bottoming-out shortens mechanical life and can crack the spring.
  2. Verify over-travel (OT). Leave the manufacturer-specified OT margin so the contact always resets cleanly when the cam / finger retracts.
  3. Test continuity at install. Use a multimeter on NO and NC; you should see a clean state change at the OP. A sticky or high-resistance contact is a sign of damage in shipping — report it immediately to Moritta@KOEED.COM.
  4. Soldering temperature. If you solder the leads directly, keep the iron at ≤ 320 °C and limit contact time to under 3 seconds. Heat traveling up the terminal is the most common cause of post-install contact shift.
  5. Avoid side load on the plunger. The plunger must move axially. A side load from a misaligned cam causes premature wear and contact chatter — especially on high-vibration industrial automation equipment.
  6. Document the wiring. Label the COM / NO / NC wires at both ends. On a multi-switch panel feeding an Mitsubishi / KEYENCE input block, a one-line wiring diagram pays for itself the first time a fault is investigated.
  7. Spare on the shelf. A D41Y is inexpensive, and the cost of an unscheduled line stop dwarfs the cost of two spare switches kept in the maintenance crib. Ask us about BOM-level stocking for multi-site deployments.
