IFM CR2042 Basic Display / Replace CR2032 — 4-digit LED Process Indicator
IFM Electronic · CR Series · Process Display / Controller · 4-20 mA · IP65/IP67
The IFM CR2042 is a 4-digit 7-segment LED process display from
IFM Electronic,
purpose-built as the modern, function-compatible successor to the legacy CR2032
basic display. It accepts a standard 4-20 mA analogue input, re-transmits a 4-20 mA signal
for downstream loops, and provides two PNP / NPN setpoint outputs for local threshold and
limit-switching. The unit ships with an M12 connector, IP65 / IP67 front bezel, a 22.5 mm
panel cutout, and 24 V DC supply, making it a drop-in upgrade for any existing
factory automation
panel that is still served by a CR2032.
Compared to the older CR2032, the CR2042 keeps the same panel footprint and wiring
conventions while adding IFM IO-Link diagnostics, a brighter red LED, and a wider
operating temperature range. It is widely deployed as a local / remote readout for
pressure, flow, level and temperature transmitters from any of the major PLC platforms
— including Allen-Bradley,
Siemens,
Mitsubishi,
Omron and
Schneider
— and is a favourite for retrofitting
process control
panels where the original display has failed or been discontinued.
Availability and lead time for the IFM CR2042 are confirmed on a per-order basis. For
current stock, cross-reference to the legacy CR2032, or a quotation that bundles the
display with the mating M12 cordset and power supply, send your BOM to
Moritta@KOEED.COM

Application Scenarios — Where the IFM CR2042 Fits
The CR2042 is most often specified wherever a 4-20 mA process value needs to be visible to
an operator on a control panel door, but the upstream PLC or DCS is too far away, too
expensive to re-cable, or simply not necessary for a small standalone machine. The
following scenarios are the most common in our daily quotations:
-
Local pressure readout on hydraulic power units, lubrication skids and pneumatics, where the pressure transmitter sits in the field and the operator needs a panel-door indication without bringing the signal all the way back to a
Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500
or
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
analogue input.
-
Flow totaliser / rate display on chemical dosing skids, where the
flowmeter
is paired with the CR2042 to give the operator a kéWh / l / kg reading.
-
Tank-level indication in water-treatment and food & beverage plants — a 4-20 mA level probe feeds the display, and the two PNP outputs drive a high / low level alarm directly into a
Omron CP1
or
Mitsubishi MELSEC
input.
-
Temperature monitoring on plastic-moulding and packaging lines, where
KEYENCE
or IFM RTD / thermocouple transmitters feed the CR2042 for door-side process visibility.
-
Pump-stand duty display on water / wastewater lift stations and HVAC chiller rooms — two CR2042s (suction + discharge) are stacked in the same 22.5 mm cutouts as the legacy CR2032s, with no panel rework.
-
Threshold / limit switching in a small
factory automation
cell, where the two PNP / NPN setpoint outputs replace a dedicated controller — useful for retrofits on
Fanuc
and
Yaskawa
robot-fed cells where adding a full PLC rack is overkill.
-
Re-transmission from a primary transmitter to a remote SCADA RTU: the CR2042 reads the local 4-20 mA, displays it on the door, and re-transmits an isolated 4-20 mA to a Schneider
Modicon M340
or
Panasonic FP
analogue input card.
Integration & Wiring Notes
Wiring is identical to the CR2032 it replaces, so existing panel drawings can normally be
reused. The M12 5-pin A-coded connector carries the 24 V DC supply, the 4-20 mA input, the
4-20 mA re-transmission output and the two switching outputs in a single cable — no
extra terminals, no extra DIN-rail space.

A few integration tips from the field: keep the analogue input cable shielded and bonded
to ground at the panel end only, do not loop the shield at both ends. If the CR2042 is
mounted more than 3 m from the transmitter, use a dedicated 4-20 mA signal cable (not a
power cable) to avoid voltage drop on long runs. The re-transmission output is passive
and requires a separate 24 V loop supply at the receiving end — this is the same
wiring convention as the older CR2032, so
process control
drawings do not need to be redrawn. For 4-wire / active 4-20 mA transmitters, the
CR2042 handles them with no extra resistor; for 2-wire loop-powered transmitters, simply
break the loop and feed the transmitter supply from pin 1.
Installation & Commissioning Tips
The CR2042 keeps the classic 22.5 mm panel cutout of the CR2032, which makes it one of
the most retrofit-friendly IFM displays ever shipped. The 48 × 48 mm front bezel
hides older cutout marks from previous generations and the IP65 / IP67 front seal means
it can be used on washdown panels in food, beverage and pharma lines.
-
Panel cutout: 22.5 mm, max panel thickness 6 mm. The supplied plastic
fixing ring is hand-tightened from the rear — no tools required.
-
Cable gland / connector: Always use an M12 5-pin A-coded cordset
rated IP67, e.g. an IFM EVC or equivalent from
IFM
or
KEYENCE
— standard M12 B- or D-coded cables will not seat correctly.
-
Scaling: Use the three front buttons to map 4 mA to the desired
lower display value (e.g. 0.0 bar) and 20 mA to the upper value (e.g. 10.0 bar).
The unit stores the scaling in non-volatile memory, so no re-calibration is needed
after a power cycle.
-
Setpoint outputs: Set OUT1 and OUT2 with the same button routine
(low / high setpoint, NO / NC, PNP / NPN). Both outputs share a common 0 V but are
short-circuit protected.
-
Diagnostic LEDs: The four front LEDs (power, input OK, OUT1,
OUT2) are readable at 5 m and double as a quick health check on the door — very
useful for
Siemens
or
Schneider
field operators who are more familiar with the panel layout than the PLC software.
-
Cold start: The display is rated for -25 °C cold start, but
allow at least 5 s warm-up for the 4-20 mA input to stabilise when commissioning in
winterised outdoor panels.
-
Retrofit note: When migrating a CR2032 panel to CR2042, double-check
the existing M12 cordset is 5-pin and not 4-pin; older CR2032 installations on
Allen-Bradley
or
Omron
panels sometimes used a 4-pin pigtail which will need to be replaced.
Procurement, Warranty & Lead Time
KOEED treats the IFM CR2042 as a stocking line item alongside the legacy CR2032,
because industrial customers often have a mixed fleet — some panels on the older
part, some on the new. Pricing is by quotation: we do not publish a fixed price, but we
will commit to a written quote (availability + lead time + unit price + shipping
options) within 24 hours of receiving a complete BOM. For projects that bundle the
CR2042 with a 1756-IF8H, a 6ES7 331 analogue input, an
Allen-Bradley
PowerFlex 525 or a
Yaskawa
Sigma-7 servo, the whole order can be consolidated on a single invoice and a single
shipment, which significantly reduces freight cost and customs clearance time.
Authenticity is verified at the warehouse before shipment: every IFM CR2042 is checked
for original IFM packaging, intact M12 sealing, firmware version stamp, and a unique
serial number traceable to the IFM factory batch. Used or refurbished units are not
shipped as new — if you specifically need a refurbished CR2032 / CR2042 to keep a
legacy line running, please mark the BOM as “refurbished acceptable” when you
email
Moritta@KOEED.COM
and we will quote both options side by side.
Warranty is 12 months from invoice date, covering manufacturing defects and DOA
(dead-on-arrival) failures. Worldwide shipping is available via DHL, FedEx, UPS and
standard air freight for bulk orders. Lead time for an in-stock CR2042 is typically
3-5 business days to most major industrial regions; for larger orders or panel-build
projects, please send a forecast so we can hold buffer stock in our Shenzhen / Hong
Kong warehouse.
