Field Engineering FAQ & Troubleshooting

Q1: The brake is not releasing (opening) when power is applied.
A: Measure the DC output across terminals 3 and 4. If voltage is significantly lower than 0.45x the AC input, the internal diode may be damaged. Also, ensure the brake coil resistance is within manufacturer specs; a shorted coil will blow the rectifier's fuse or diode immediately.

Q2: There is a significant delay in the brake engaging after power-off.
A: This is normal for AC-side switching. For "Fast Braking" in hoisting applications, you must use an auxiliary contact to break the DC circuit simultaneously. Refer to the DC-Side Switching logic in our calculator above.

Q3: The DRH555 module is overheating during operation.
A: Check the current draw. The DRH555 is rated for 0.75A DC. High-duty cycle applications (Class D/E cranes) or using a coil with too low resistance will exceed this rating. Ensure the ambient temperature inside the motor terminal box is not exceeding 80°C.
