Mitsubishi HC-MF23B-UE / HCMF23BUE — 200W MELSERVO J2S / J3 Servo Motor with Brake
Mitsubishi · MELSERVO J2S / J2 / J3 · Low-Inertia Servo Motor · 200V 3Φ · With Electromagnetic Brake · In stock
The HC-MF23B-UE (alias HCMF23BUE) is a 200 W (0.2 kW) class
low-inertia AC servo motor from the
Mitsubishi MELSERVO HC-MF
family. It carries an integrated electromagnetic holding brake and a “UE”
connector / lead-exit variant shaft, so it drops directly onto legacy
MR-J2S-20A,
MR-J3-20A,
MR-J4-20A
and the newer MR-J5-20G servo amplifiers. KOEED stocks HC-MF23B-UE alongside the full
Mitsubishi MELSEC & MELSERVO
line, as well as servo motors from
Yaskawa Σ-7,
Siemens Sinamics
and the rest of the nine KOEED brands, so a maintenance engineer can quote a single BOM
for the whole line.
Key Technical Specifications & Overview
HC-MF23B-UE sits in the small-capacity, low-inertia slice of the MELSERVO HC-MF range that
Mitsubishi introduced alongside MR-J2S and then carried forward into MR-J3 and MR-J4.
Rated 200 W continuous at 3000 rpm on 200 V three-phase, the motor is short,
high-acceleration, and built around a 17-bit incremental encoder (131 072 pulses/rev)
for precise positioning on small axes. The trailing “-UE” suffix designates
the connector / lead-exit variant of the standard HC-MF23B, and the “B” in
the model code marks the integrated electromagnetic brake for vertical / hold-in-position
duty. Where the parameter envelope on a specific build revision matters for your
application, send the motor nameplate to
Moritta@KOEED.COM
and we will cross-check against the official datasheet before shipping.

Application Scenarios & Where It Fits
HC-MF23B-UE is sized for the small, fast, high-cycle axes that define modern
semiconductor, electronics and lab-automation equipment. The 200 W continuous rating and
3000 rpm top speed pair naturally with the 200 V 3-phase MR-J2S / MR-J3 / MR-J4 / MR-J5
amplifier class, and the on-board brake means the motor can be mounted on a vertical axis
or used as a small conveyor indexer without an external mechanical stop. It is also a
common direct replacement for the older MELSERVO J2 HC-MF23B-B variant when a shop is
modernising its drives from J2S to J4.
- Semiconductor pick-and-place and die-bonding heads
- SMT placement, screen printing and reflow-oven conveyor indexers
- Small CNC mills, lathes, engravers and tool-room machines
- Packaging machinery — label applicators, wrap stations, cartoning, filling
- Life-science lab automation — pipetting heads, vial handling, plate movers
- Optical inspection stations and
KEYENCE vision
XY stages
- Small AGV lift / steer axes, AGV conveyor transfer and sortation
- General factory-automation point-to-point positioning where the brake must hold the
load during a power cycle
On multi-brand lines, HC-MF23B-UE is usually paired with a
Mitsubishi MELSEC
CPU (such as a MELSEC-Q or iQ-R module) or an
Allen-Bradley CompactLogix
/
Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500
controller, with a
Omron NB / NS
or
Panasonic GT
HMI on the operator panel. Where the line also uses
Fanuc
CNC, Schneider
Modicon
I/O, or
Yaskawa Σ-7
amplifiers on the heavier axes, KOEED can quote the whole BOM in one email.
Integration & Wiring Notes
HC-MF23B-UE uses the standard MELSERVO small-capacity power and encoder pin-out. The
power cable (typically the MR-PWCBL series) carries U / V / W plus protective earth, and
the encoder cable (MR-J3ENCBL or MR-J4ENCBL) routes the 17-bit incremental signals back
to the drive. The integrated brake is fed from a separate 24 V DC supply through the
brake lead in the power / brake combo cable, and the drive’s brake interlock
output (typically switched via the CN1 connector) must release the brake before motion
starts. Wiring rules:
- Confirm the matching amplifier class before energising: HC-MF23B-UE pairs with the
200 W MR-J2S-20A, MR-J3-20A, MR-J4-20A, or MR-J5-20G. Pairing it with a larger drive
(e.g. an MR-J4-40A) will not produce the rated torque envelope.
- Use the cable family that matches the drive generation — MR-J3ENCBL for J3,
MR-J4ENCBL for J4, and the equivalent for J2S and J5. Encoder cable pin-outs differ
between J3 and J4 even at the same motor model.
- Provide a dedicated 24 V DC brake supply. The brake draws roughly 0.3–0.4 A on
the HC-MF class, so a small DIN-rail PSU is sufficient, but it must be tied into the
drive’s safety stop path so the brake engages on emergency-off.
- Bond the motor frame to cabinet protective earth at the amplifier end, not at the
load end, to avoid circulating currents through the bearings.
- Set the electronic gear ratio and regenerative-resistor parameters in MR-Configurator
to the values listed in the drive’s “small motor” table. A
mismatched gear ratio is the most common cause of position-error alarms on a
field-swap.
- For motion control on a non-Mitsubishi controller, route position commands through
CC-Link IE, EtherCAT or pulse-train depending on the drive family. MELSERVO J4 and
J5 support both CC-Link IE Field Basic and EtherCAT; J2S and J3 are typically
pulse-train or SSCNET.
The mechanical envelope is the same as the standard HC-MF23B: 60 mm flange, 26.5 mm
shaft, keyway cut, oil seal on the drive end, and an IP65 body on most build revisions.
The “-UE” suffix on this variant routes the cable exit through a
connector / lead-outlet layout preferred by OEMs that want a clean cable bend on tight
XY stages, so mechanical retrofits from a non-UE variant to a UE variant usually go
through a cable-side change only.
Installation & Commissioning Tips
A small Mitsubishi servo swap is fast once the cabling is right. The sequence below
is the one most MELSERVO service manuals and our
China sourcing
QC team agree on:
-
Lock out and tag out the cabinet, then verify zero energy on both the
main 200 V bus and the 24 V brake supply.
-
Inspect the encoder and power connectors on the new motor —
confirm the “-UE” lead exit is in the orientation that matches the
cable gland on the machine, and that the brake lead is on the correct pin.
-
Mount the motor on a clean, flat machine surface. Misalignment on
a 200 W small flange is the most common source of vibration and premature bearing
wear.
-
Wire the power, encoder and brake with the cable family that
matches the drive generation; clip the brake lead to a strain relief on the cabinet
side, not the motor side.
-
Power up the drive only, then run MR-Configurator and confirm the
encoder is read correctly. A missing or noisy encoder will raise AL.16 (encoder
error 1) or AL.1E (encoder error 2) on the first attempt to enable the servo.
-
Release the brake manually through the test screen in MR-Configurator
before jogging the axis, and confirm the load is held in position once the brake is
re-engaged.
-
Run a low-speed JOG and a short positioning move to verify direction,
gain and electronic gear ratio. Tune the auto-tuned gain values from the same screen
before locking in the production profile.
If a Mitsubishi alarm code stops the commissioning,
KOEED’s PLC error-code database
and the

both cover the MELSERVO AL.1x and AL.2x series. For panel-builder projects that also use
a
Panasonic FP
or
KEYENCE
HMI on the same line, the same error-code database covers the controller-side faults.
