4. Installation & Commissioning Tips

Swapping a FCU6-KB022 is a panel-level mechanical job, not a parameter job. With mains locked-out, the physical change-out is typically 20–40 minutes. The checklist below covers the steps most often missed on a brownfield machine:

• Lock out / tag out the machine. Cut mains to the MELDAS control and wait the indicated time on the cabinet for DC-bus discharge before opening the pendant.
• Photograph the cable routing. Take a picture of the existing FCU6 cable run, the strain-relief location, and the connector keying before unplugging. The KB022 is keyed, but the cable can be forced onto the wrong pin set on a worn connector.
• Inspect the FCU6 cable, do not just reuse it. Look for kinks, hardened bends near the strain relief, and discoloured insulation. A marginal cable will produce intermittent "KB I/O error" alarms that look exactly like a bad keyboard.
• Re-seat twice. On the first re-installation, unplug and re-plug the FCU6 connector twice to wipe any oxide on the pins, then torque the connector screws to the original spec.
