and connects directly to PLCs, HMIs, MES platforms, IPCs and vision systems. For the global automation market, this is rather than just another cobot refresh. It signals that robot controllers are absorbing the networking responsibilities of PLC-adjacent hardware.

As factories pivot toward “physical AI” architectures, the control layer is consolidating. Controllers that natively speak multiple industrial networks reduce switch count, cabling and commissioning time , a direct hit to total cost of ownership for integrators and OEMs.

The CB7 Core controller is built for modern automation and physical AI architectures, enabling multi-network communication that the company says reduces the need for external switches. It is available at launch in two form factors: a standalone control box and a compact version designed for integration into an automation cabinet.

Crucially, the new controller remains compatible with existing e-Series and UR robot arms. That backward compatibility lowers the migration barrier for installed bases already deployed on production floors worldwide.

Gen 7 is a full-stack redesign, from controller to tool flange. Alongside the CB7 Core, UR introduced the

, which is more than 20% lighter than previous generations. It adds multiple grip positions, configurable smart buttons, a full HD display, a responsive touchscreen and a virtual joystick.

The platform is positioned as “out-of-the-box AI-ready,” giving engineers the modern software tools and connectivity needed to move AI from the lab into live industrial operations.
