ABB ACS310-03U-34A1-4 Inverter — 3-Phase 380-480V AC Drive, 34A / 15 kW
ABB · ACS310 · VFD / AC Drive · In stock for MRO
The ABB ACS310-03U-34A1-4 is a 3-phase 380-480 V general-purpose AC drive (VFD)
from the ABB ACS310 pump-and-fan family, rated 34 A continuous output (about 15 kW / 20 HP at
400 V) in an IP21 / NEMA 1 wall-mount enclosure. It is widely used in water-treatment, HVAC,
irrigation and industrial-fan retrofits where built-in PID, sensorless vector control and a
Modbus RTU fieldbus matter more than high-end programming features. KOEED keeps the
ACS310-03U-34A1-4
in active stock for fast MRO turn-around, and is the same one-stop multi-brand source used for
Allen-Bradley
PowerFlex 525 / 70 drives,
Siemens
Sinamics V20 / G120,
Schneider
Altivar 320 / 630 and
Yaskawa
V1000 / A1000 platforms.

The type-code breakdown is worth memorising on the floor: ACS310 = the pump /
fan drive family; 03U = 3-phase 380-480 V input; 34A1 = 34 A
nominal current; 4 = IP21 / NEMA 1 enclosure. So if you ever see an
ACS310-03U-25A1-4 or ACS310-03U-46A1-4 in the same cabinet, the family and frame are identical
and you can wire them up the same way — a useful detail when a spare drive has to come out
of a different cubicle.
Application Scenarios & Where It Fits
The ACS310 was designed specifically for variable-torque loads (pumps, fans, blowers) and
constant-torque loads that don't need a high-performance servo loop. Typical deployments
include:
-
Water and wastewater — raw-water intake pumps, transfer pumps in
factory automation
booster stations, dosing pumps, and sewage-treatment aerators.
-
HVAC — chilled-water pumps, condenser-water pumps, supply / return
fans, cooling-tower fans in commercial and light-industrial HVAC plants.
-
Irrigation — centre-pivot and drip-irrigation pumps where 4-20 mA
pressure feedback modulates speed.
-
Process fans and blowers — combustion-air blowers, drying-line fans,
bag-house exhaust fans in
process control
cells.
-
Constant-torque retrofit — replacing across-the-line started
conveyors or mixers where soft-start and adjustable speed are both wanted.
MRO teams that run mixed-brand cabinets are the typical buyer. The same plant might have
Allen-Bradley
ControlLogix supervising the line, a
Siemens
S7-1200 next to a Schneider Magelis HMI, and a few ACS310 drives on the pump skid. A
Mitsubishi
FX / iQ-R PLC, an
Omron
CP1 / CJ2, and a Yaskawa MP controller can all sit on the same RS-485 Modbus trunk — so
the ACS310 doesn't lock you into any particular PLC brand.
Integration & Wiring Notes
Power terminals. 3-phase L1 / L2 / L3 in, U / V / W out to the motor. Earth /
PE must be landed on the dedicated PE terminal before power-up, and the chassis must be bonded
to the cabinet protective earth. Output side: do not add a contactor or a sine filter between
the drive and the motor unless your cable run exceeds the manufacturer limit — extra
capacitance on the output will trip over-current on the first ramp.
Control terminals. The default ACS310 macro exposes AI1 (4-20 mA or 0-10 V,
jumper-selectable) as the speed reference, AI2 as the PID feedback, DI1 as start / stop, DI2
as run-reverse (or constant-torque direction), and RO1 / RO2 as fault and run relays. The
Modbus RTU port is on terminals 29-30 (RS-485 A / B) and uses the standard 06 / 03 / 10 / 04
function codes. A typical poll cycle from a
Siemens
S7-1200 or a
Mitsubishi
FX5 is a few hundred milliseconds for 6-8 drive parameters — well within what a SCADA
refresh needs. For deeper Modbus register mapping, the
KOEED Modbus CRC Calculator
helps you double-check the CRC byte order for the field.
Programming. ABB's Drive Composer entry tool (or the older DriveStudio) talks
to the drive over the mini-USB on the Assistant panel, or over Modbus. Parameter sets for
typical pump and fan applications are pre-loaded as macros, so most start-ups just pick a macro,
enter motor nameplate data, run the ID-run, and you're done. For projects that also pull in
Omron
CP1H PLCs, a
Fanuc
CNC interface, a
Panasonic
FP-X PLC, or a
Yaskawa
Sigma-7 servo, the Modbus trunk can be shared — just keep each drive on its own node ID
and terminate the bus with 120 Ω at both ends. For PID setpoint scaling, the
KOEED PLC Hex to Float Converter
is handy when you want to read floating-point feedback values from the drive.
Installation & Commissioning Tips
Mounting. Keep at least 100 mm clearance above and below the drive for
airflow, and avoid putting other heat-generating devices (transformers, line reactors) directly
underneath. The IP21 rating is good for indoor wall-mount in a control room, but it is not
drip-proof — in a wet plant, drop it into a NEMA 3R or IP54 cabinet.
Cable practice. Use shielded symmetrical VFD cable (or 4-core + overall shield)
on the motor side, ground the shield at both ends with 360° bonding, and keep motor cable
runs short (under ~50 m is the practical limit on the 34 A frame). For longer runs, an output
reactor or dU/dt filter is recommended. The control wiring should be routed in a separate
trough from the power wiring to avoid noise on the analog signals.
Commissioning flow. Confirm the wiring is right, power up with the motor
uncoupled (or with the load locked-out), enter motor nameplate data, run the ID-run, then
reconnect the load. For pump applications, set the PID feedback source to AI2, set the PID
setpoint source to a digital reference or a 4-20 mA master, and tune the PID with a
step-response test on the actual piping. For fan applications, set a skip-frequency band to
avoid resonant duct acoustics. Most field issues with the ACS310 come down to mis-sized input
protection, missing PE bonds, or a sensorless-vector ID-run that wasn't completed — the
KOEED AI Diagnostic Tool
can read a fault code off the panel and suggest a fix path in a few seconds.
Procurement, Warranty & Lead Time
Because the ACS310 is now a legacy / mature platform, pricing and lead time on the
ACS310-03U-34A1-4 are best confirmed by email. KOEED's standard flow is: send the part number
(or a full BOM) to
Moritta@KOEED.COM,
get a quote back within 24 hours on business days, confirm the build, and ship worldwide via
DHL / FedEx / UPS. For project buys, a
multi-line Create a Quote form
lets you bundle the ACS310 with the rest of the cabinet (PLCs, HMIs, breakers, contactors)
into a single shipment.
Warranty. KOEED sources the ACS310-03U-34A1-4 through qualified channels
— each unit is inspected, parameter-tested, and visually verified before it leaves the
Shenzhen / Hong Kong warehouse, and ships with a standard 12-month warranty. We also handle the
ACS310 to ACS580 / ACH580 / ACQ580 migration
for new builds, so if you are upgrading a fleet of drives you can phase the old and new stock
side by side. Cross-brand spares (a
Schneider
Altivar 320 next to an ACS310, or a
Panasonic
FP-X PLC in the same panel) can ride on the same BOM.
Lead time. For in-stock items the typical lead time is 3-5 business days to
most major export hubs (EU, US, Middle East, Southeast Asia, South America) via DHL / FedEx.
For larger BOM orders or pre-owned / refurbished units, expect a slightly longer window —
the live status is reflected on our
Real-Time Sales Records
page. If a direct cross is not available, we will propose an equivalent
ABB ACS580,
ACH580
or
ACQ580,
or an equivalent from
Yaskawa
/
Fanuc
/
KEYENCE
— whatever keeps the line running. If the part isn't on the website, send the BOM to
Moritta@KOEED.COM and we'll come back with a quote.
