1. Why does my hoist motor hum but refuse to lift the load?
This is often caused by the brake failing to release. The motor is trying to turn against a locked mechanical brake. Immediately check the NM181NR4 rectifier. Measure the AC voltage entering the module and the DC voltage exiting it. If there is AC going in but no DC coming out, the rectifier is destroyed.

2. What causes a crane brake rectifier to burn out?
The most common causes are voltage spikes (surges) on the factory power grid, a shorted brake coil (which draws massive current and instantly blows the rectifier's internal diodes), or extreme ambient heat combined with high-frequency jogging (rapidly pressing the hoist button up and down).

3. Should I check the brake coil before installing a new rectifier?
Absolutely. Never install a new NM181NR4 without first Ohming out the brake coil. Disconnect the coil wires and use a multimeter to measure the resistance (Ohms). If the coil reads zero ohms (shorted) or infinite ohms (open), it will immediately destroy the new rectifier as soon as you apply power. The coil must show a healthy resistance reading according to the motor's manual.
