Allen-Bradley 1769-PA4 CompactLogix AC Power Supply Module — New, Factory Sealed
AB · CompactLogix · 1769 Power Supply · 120/240V AC → 24V DC / 4A · In stock
The 1769-PA4 is a Compact I/O AC power supply module from
Allen-Bradley
(Rockwell Automation), designed to mount on the left end of a 1769 rack and feed the backplane of a
CompactLogix 5370 / 5380 / 5480
system. It accepts 120/240V AC mains and delivers a regulated 24V DC at 4A continuous (96 W) to the controller, local 1769 I/O modules, and any expansion rack on the same bus. This unit is brand new, factory sealed, and sourced through the
KOEED China sourcing
channel for fast worldwide delivery.

1. Key Technical Specifications & Overview
The 1769-PA4 belongs to the 1769 Compact I/O power-supply family. It is the AC-input counterpart of the 1769-PB4 (24V DC input), and is the preferred supply in plants where only AC mains is available at the panel. It is fully compatible with the
1769-L30ERM,
1769-L33ERM,
and
1769-L36ERM
CompactLogix 5370 controllers, the 5380 (5069-L3xxERM) generation, and the 1769 I/O modules used in mid-size machine cells.

2. Application Scenarios & Where It Fits
The 1769-PA4 is the workhorse AC supply for mid-size CompactLogix systems, and is the right choice whenever the panel builder needs to feed a 1769 rack directly from AC mains without a separate 24V DC PSU. Compared with compact controllers from
Siemens (S7-1200 / S7-1500) or
Mitsubishi MELSEC iQ-R, the 1769 platform offers a tighter, rack-based I/O footprint that many North-American OEMs prefer.
- Standalone machine builders (packaging lines, labeling, filling, capping, cartoning)
- Material handling: conveyors, sortation, palletizers, AS/RS shuttles
- Small process skids: water/wastewater booster stations, dosing skids, CIP panels
- Food & beverage lines requiring washdown enclosures (paired with 1769-IP or 1769-IF4IH modules)
- CompactLogix retrofit of legacy
SLC 500
and PLC-5 cells, often with a 1769-PB4 backup supply in the same rack
- OEM test stands and laboratory automation paired with
KEYENCE vision or
Panasonic sensors
- Discrete assembly cells that mix CompactLogix with
Omron NS / NB HMI,
Yaskawa Σ-7 servo, or
Schneider Altivar drives
- Plant-floor cells integrating
Fanuc CNC or robot cells upstream/downstream
For larger 1756 ControlLogix racks, see the equivalent
1756-PA75 AC supply. For DC-only cabinets, the 1769-PB4 (24V DC in / 24V DC out) is the direct drop-in.
3. Integration & Wiring Notes
The 1769-PA4 always sits on the left end of the 1769 I/O bank. It generates the +5V DC and +24V DC backplane rails that every downstream 1769 module draws from. A second supply (typically 1769-PB4 for redundancy, or another 1769-PA2 / PA4 for extra current) can be installed to the right of the I/O modules it powers — the bus auto-negotiates which is the active supply.
| Terminal |
Signal |
Notes |
| L1 / L2 |
AC line / AC neutral |
120V or 240V AC nominal, single phase; use a dedicated branch circuit with a 10A slow-blow fuse or C-curve breaker |
| ⊥ (PE) |
Protective earth |
Mandatory, bond to cabinet PE bus with ≤ 0.5 Ω impedance |
| DC+/DC− |
Internal 24V DC out to backplane |
Do not wire to external loads — the bus is current-shared with optional second supply |
| +24V user |
Aux 24V DC for field devices |
Limited to 0.8 A; design assumes sensors / relays, not a servo drive bus |
Always pull the field wiring to a clearly labelled disconnect upstream so the unit can be locked out. Use ferrules on stranded conductors, keep the AC runs physically separated from low-level analog wiring (e.g. 1769-IF4IH), and torque the supply terminals to 0.6 N·m per the Allen-Bradley installation manual. If you are integrating with a
Siemens S7-1500 cell on the same machine, we recommend dedicating a separate AC branch to each controller to avoid shared-ground noise.
4. Installation & Commissioning Tips
-
Verify the catalog number on the side label before energising — AB cross-catalogs the 1769-PA4 against the older 1769-PA2 (2A) and 1769-PA2K (2A, conformal coated). PA4 is the 4A / 96W variant.
-
Check 1769 I/O power budget with the AB spreadsheet before adding modules; the 4A budget must cover the controller (typ. 0.5–1.0 A) plus the sum of every 1769 module's backplane draw. Use the
KOEED PLC Analog Calculator for quick I/O budgeting.
-
Leave clearance for airflow — 50 mm above and 25 mm below the supply. The 1769-PA4 is convection-cooled; sealed enclosures need a thermostat-driven fan or heat-exchanger.
-
Watch the inrush on cold-start panels. A 25 A inrush for 2 ms can nuisance-trip a 6 A breaker; specify a 10 A D-curve (slow-blow) breaker upstream.
-
Validate the OK LED on power-up — solid green means +5V and +24V rails are in spec. If it flashes red, the supply is in current limit and you need to either shed I/O or add a second supply.
-
Firmware parity with the CompactLogix 5370 / 5380 controller is automatic through the backplane, but Studio 5000 / RSLogix 5000 will warn if the supply's firmware is older than the controller — use Logix Designer to flash the supply as part of commissioning.
-
Document the supply in the project BOM with the 1769-PA4 catalog number, a spare 1769-PB4 for redundant cabinets, and the
KOEED Modbus CRC calculator
if downstream I/O is bridged to a third-party VFD.
5. Procurement, Warranty & Lead Time
KOEED operates a B2B, RFQ-driven supply model rather than a one-click cart, which is what lets us move hard-to-find and end-of-life 1769 inventory alongside current production parts. For the 1769-PA4 we keep sealed stock ready to ship from our Hong Kong / Shenzhen warehouse. The lead-time picture in 2026 is:

If you are also rebuilding the rest of the rack, our team can cross-reference common 1769 spares (1769-IQ16, 1769-OB16, 1769-IF4IH, 1769-OV16, 1769-ECR end cap) and the matching
1769-L30ERM /
1769-L33ERM /
1769-L36ERM
processors, plus 1769-PB4 redundant supplies and 1769-ECR right-end terminators, all in a single quote. If the panel needs a 1756 ControlLogix backplane instead, swap to the
Allen-Bradley ControlLogix
family — we stock the 1756-PA75 / PB75 supplies in the same condition. For cross-vendor retrofits where you are also pulling in
Omron CP1H, CJ2M,
Panasonic FP-X, or
Schneider Modicon M340 alongside AB, mention those part numbers in the same email and we will quote the whole lot.
