BECKER VT-4.40: How to Confirm Your Variant, Service It Correctly, and Source It Without Guesswork

By Moritta Chen · KOEED Sourcing Engineer · Last reviewed 2026 · Fact-checked against Becker-published product and spare-parts documentation

The work order says VT-4.40, the line is down, and someone is already adding a vane kit to a shopping cart. One detail decides whether the order fits: the complete nameplate string, not the family name. BECKER VT-4.40 sits inside Becker’s rotary vane machine family — the sliding-vane principle Becker uses across both its oil-less and oil-lubricated vane vacuum pumps and compressors — and those builds do not share the same vane, seal and filter part numbers. KOEED’s job is to confirm which build you have, then supply the unit or the service parts that keep it running.

Quick Facts

  • Design family: Becker rotary vane technology — an eccentrically mounted rotor with slots turns inside a cylindrical housing; sliding vanes separate the individual working chambers (Becker’s own description of its rotary vane line).
  • Variant matters: Becker builds vane machines in oil-less and oil-lubricated configurations, so vanes, seals and filters are matched to your revision, not to the family name.
  • Before you order: quote the full nameplate string (model + revision/speed/voltage code), the motor data plate and the serial number.
  • What we supply: complete units, vanes, filters and separators, gaskets, maintenance and repair kits, gauges and fitment accessories.
  • Turnaround: email a nameplate photo to Moritta@KOEED.COM — average response under 24 hours.

What “VT-4.40” tells you — and what it does not

Becker designs and manufactures a broad industrial portfolio: oil-less and oil-lubricated rotary vane vacuum pumps, dry screw pumps, roots boosters, radial and claw vacuum pumps, regenerative (side-channel) blowers, and pressure machines that include oil-less rotary vane compressors. The vane architecture is the common thread in the VT family — a rotor mounted off-centre, vanes sliding in its slots, and working chambers that fill and discharge as the rotor turns.

That architecture is why a VT-4.40 is easy to recognise on the floor and harder to order for. The model name identifies the family, but not the lubrication regime, the motor winding, the port configuration, or the revision level. Those four variables determine which vane set, filter element and gasket kit physically fit. In practice, most of the mis-orders we see are not wrong parts — they are right parts for the wrong revision.

Nameplate verification checklist (do this before requesting a quote)

  1. Photograph the full nameplate, including any stamped or printed suffix after the base model number. The suffix usually carries the revision or build code.
  2. Capture the motor data plate: power (kW or HP), voltage, frequency, phase and rated speed. A machine built for one grid is not a drop-in for another.
  3. Record the serial number. This is the only key that resolves Becker’s spare-parts lists and data sheets to your exact machine.
  4. Note the lubrication regime. Oil-less versus oil-lubricated changes the vane material, the seals, the filtration, and whether an oil specification applies at all.
  5. Measure the connections: inlet and discharge port type and size, plus any silencer, filter or enclosure currently fitted.
  6. Describe the duty: continuous or intermittent, holding vacuum or holding pressure, and the ambient conditions around the machine.

Specification fields we confirm on every VT-4.40 request

Rather than publishing performance numbers that may not match your build, our engineers verify each item below against the Becker data sheet and spare-parts list that correspond to your serial number. The table shows what we confirm and why each field decides the fit.

Field to confirm Why it decides fit Where it comes from
Base model + revision suffix Vane sets, gaskets and clearances change between revisions Machine nameplate
Vane type & lubrication regime Determines vane material, seal specification and filtration Nameplate + operating manual
Displacement / flow rate Sizing against the process demand, not the old nameplate alone Becker data sheet (by model)
Vacuum level or pressure level A vacuum duty and a pressure duty are different machine selections Application data + data sheet
Motor rating, voltage, frequency, phase Grid and starter compatibility; overload margin Motor data plate
Rated speed Affects flow, vane wear rate and noise signature Data sheet / nameplate
Inlet & discharge connections Mechanical fit and piping rework cost Site measurement
Accessories & sound enclosure fitment Filters, silencers, gauges and enclosures are model-specific Becker spare-parts list
Weight & mounting footprint Rigging, baseplate and vibration isolation Data sheet

So what: the family name gets you to the right shelf; the motor data plate, revision suffix and serial number get you the right box. Send all three and we can confirm the part in one exchange instead of three.

Service parts that decide a VT-4.40’s uptime

A vane machine rarely fails without warning. It signals through flow, temperature, sound and exhaust quality. The table below maps the consumables we quote most often for Becker vane machines to the symptom that usually triggers the replacement. Intervals are set by duty and environment, not by a single number — Becker publishes maintenance guides and replacement-vane documentation for reference.

Part family What it does Typical service trigger
Replacement vanes Seal each working chamber and carry the compression load Flow loss, longer cycle times, fine grey dust or vane debris at the exhaust
Inlet filter element Protects the working chamber from dust and process carry-over Gradual flow drop, higher discharge temperature, visible loading on the element
Exhaust filter / separator Captures oil mist or particulate before the discharge Visible mist at the exhaust, pressure rise in the discharge line (oil-lubricated builds)
Gaskets, O-rings, seals Maintain chamber integrity through every rebuild Any opening of the machine; weeping or vacuum/pressure decay between services
Maintenance & repair kits Bundle the parts normally consumed together Scheduled overhaul planning; single-shipment procurement
Lubricant (oil-lubricated builds only) Lubrication, cooling and internal sealing Intervals and grade set by the model’s manual — never substituted across regimes
Gauges & monitoring accessories Turn a failure symptom into a trend you can act on Commissioning, or adding condition monitoring after a first failure

So what: buying a vane set without a gasket and filter set is the classic half-repair — the machine comes back within weeks because the chamber was re-sealed against a saturated filter.

Failure modes and what they usually mean

  • Falling flow with unchanged setpoint. Most often restricted inlet filtration or worn vanes. Check filtration first — it is cheaper and faster to rule out.
  • Rising discharge temperature. Restricted air path, saturated filter, or operation outside the intended duty cycle.
  • Oil mist or residue at the exhaust (lubricated builds). Separator saturation, over-filling, or a blocked return path.
  • New noise or vibration signature. Vane sticking in the rotor slots, or bearing and coupling wear. Stop using sound as a comfort signal and start logging it.
  • Vacuum or pressure decaying between cycles. Seal and gasket degradation, or a connection leak that has been masked by good vane condition.
  • Repeated motor overload trips. Often a mechanical cause — internal residue, wrong vane set from a previous repair, or an undersized starter.

What to send for a same-day cross-reference

Send a nameplate photo, the motor data plate, the serial number, the port sizes, two or three photos of the installed machine, and one line about the application (holding vacuum on a pick-and-place head, supplying pressure for pneumatic conveying, and so on). With that set, our engineers run the cross-reference against Becker’s published data sheets and spare-parts lists and reply with either an exact match or a clearly flagged equivalent. If your existing BOM lists other Becker machines, send the whole list in one email — consolidated quotes reduce both freight and handling cost.

Unit price is the wrong metric — use cost per uptime-year

For procurement teams, the number that matters is not the invoice price of the machine or the kit. It is purchase cost plus consumables plus energy plus the cost of every unplanned stop, divided by the years the asset actually stays in service. A vane set that arrives in three days at a slightly higher price usually beats a cost-effective-looking alternative that arrives in six weeks, because downtime is priced per hour, not per part.

This is also why we ask for the application before we quote. The same VT-4.40 designation can sit in a clean packaging cell or in a dusty cutting environment, and the consumable interval — and therefore the real cost — differs accordingly.

Condition, provenance and compatibility — stated plainly

Every KOEED quote states the condition of the item: new surplus, factory-refurbished, or service-tested used. Where a part is an aftermarket or reverse-engineered alternative rather than a Becker original, we say so in the quotation — those parts are not factory-authorized, and we never present them as such. Compatibility for any suggested equivalent is verified against three things only: nameplate and revision match, motor and electrical match, and mechanical fit at the mounting and ports. If a substitution cannot be verified on all three, we will tell you rather than ship a maybe.

Frequently asked questions

Can I replace the vanes on a VT-4.40 myself?
A vane change is a mechanical job within reach of a competent maintenance team, provided you have the correct vane set for your revision, new gaskets, the torque values from the manual, and a clean assembly area. Because the working clearances are tight, contamination during reassembly is the most common cause of a repeat failure.

How long do vanes last?
There is no single figure. Duty cycle, inlet air quality, discharge pressure level and ambient temperature all shift the interval substantially. The practical answer is to trend your cycle times and discharge temperature: the moment both drift together, schedule the service rather than waiting for the flow to fail.

Can I use an oil-lubricated service kit on an oil-less machine?
No. The lubrication regime changes the vane material and the sealing components, and mixing them will damage the machine. Confirm the regime from the nameplate and manual before ordering any kit.

Do you supply only the machine, or parts as well?
Both. We quote complete units and the consumable layer — vanes, filter elements, separators, gaskets, kits, gauges and fitment accessories — matched to your serial number.

What if the exact part is unavailable?
We come back with two options: a verified equivalent with the compatibility conditions stated in writing, or a lead-time commitment for the original. You decide which risk you prefer.
