What Is the Schneider Electric LC1K1210F7 IEC Magnetic Contactor?

The Schneider Electric LC1K1210F7 is a 3-pole IEC magnetic contactor from the TeSys K compact range, engineered for switching three-phase AC loads up to 12A (AC-3 rating at 440V). Its 110V AC 50/60Hz coil makes it a direct-fit component in industrial control panels across North America and Asia, where 110V control circuits are standard. The contactor features silver-alloy power contacts for consistent low-resistance switching, screw-clamp terminals that accept a generous wire gauge range, and a built-in 1 N/O auxiliary contact for seal-in circuits, PLC feedback, or indicator lamp logic. With a mechanical endurance exceeding 10 million operations, it is built for repetitive duty in motor starters, heater banks, pump panels, and conveyor controls.

In short: This is a compact 12A IEC contactor with a 110V AC coil and one N/O auxiliary contact, purpose-built for controlling small to medium motors and resistive loads in industrial automation panels. Supplied by koeed.com with worldwide shipping.

The LC1K1210F7 is a contactor only and does not provide overload protection. For motor applications, pair it with a Schneider LRD-series thermal overload relay to form a complete motor starter. Verify your control transformer can supply the contactor coil's inrush VA, which is higher than the sealed VA rating.

Typical Applications

  • Small Motor Starters: Combined with a thermal overload relay, the LC1K1210F7 forms a compact DOL (Direct-On-Line) starter for three-phase induction motors up to approximately 5.5 kW at 440V
  • HVAC Compressor Control: Reliable switching of air conditioning and refrigeration compressor contactors in building management panels
  • Pump Panels: Remote start/stop control for water booster pumps, irrigation pumps, and sump pump stations
  • Heater Banks: AC-1 rated switching for resistive heating elements, industrial ovens, and electric furnaces
  • Conveyor Controls: Integration into automated conveyor start/stop circuits in material handling and packaging lines
  • Lighting Contactors: Switching of large lighting loads such as warehouse high-bay fixtures and outdoor area lighting

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the 110V AC coil work reliably on a 120V control circuit?

The coil is rated for 110V AC nominal but operates within a tolerance band of 0.85 to 1.1 times rated voltage (approximately 93V to 121V). For a 120V control circuit, the coil should perform without issue as long as the actual voltage does not exceed 121V under normal conditions. However, if your 120V supply tends to run high (above 125V), consider installing a small control transformer with a 110V secondary tap. Prolonged over-voltage accelerates coil heating and may reduce contactor life.

Can I use this contactor for single-phase loads?

Yes. Wire only two poles in series for single-phase switching -- series connection doubles the arc gap, improving DC or high-inductance load breaking. The 12A per-pole rating still applies, but since single-phase motors draw more current per kW than three-phase, verify your motor's full-load amperage (FLA) before selecting this contactor. For 1 HP (0.75 kW) single-phase motors at 230V, the LC1K1210F7 is well within its rating.

How many auxiliary contacts can I add to this contactor?

The LC1K1210F7 comes with one built-in N/O auxiliary contact. Schneider offers front-mount auxiliary contact blocks (LA1K series) that clip onto the contactor body, typically adding up to 4 additional contacts (2 N/O + 2 N/C or similar configurations). These are useful for PLC feedback signals, holding/seal-in circuits, or driving panel indicator lamps. If your application requires more than the maximum clip-on count, consider an external interface relay driven by one auxiliary contact.

Can the LC1K1210F7 switch DC loads such as battery circuits?

This contactor is designed and rated for AC switching. DC arcs do not self-extinguish at zero-crossing (since DC has no zero-crossing), making DC interruption significantly harder on AC-rated contacts. For DC loads -- battery systems, solar DC circuits, traction power -- use a contactor specifically rated for DC duty (Schneider's TeSys DC contactor range or equivalent). Using an AC contactor on DC can result in welded contacts after just a few operations.

What overload relay should I pair with this contactor?

Schneider recommends the LRD series thermal overload relays for the TeSys K range. The LRD10 (4-6A), LRD12 (5.5-8A), or LRD14 (7-10A) are common pairings depending on your motor's full-load current. These relays mount directly beneath the contactor and provide adjustable thermal protection with phase-loss sensitivity. For electronic protection with wider adjustment range, consider the Schneider LRE series.
