What is the Contrinex DW-AS-503-M8-001?

The DW-AS-503-M8-001 is a Contrinex M8 inductive proximity sensor — the short stainless barrel that detects metal at 3 mm and reports it over a PNP normally-open output, built for embeddable (flush) mounting where the sensor sits flush in a metal plate without false-triggering off its own surround. The blue data card carries the full identity: diameter M8, operating distance sn = 3 mm, PNP NO, supply 10…30 VDC with a 200 mA maximum output, wired through a 3-pin M8 connector (1 = +UB, 4 = switched output A, 3 = 0 V). Why flush-mount and 3 mm matter together

An M8 sensor at 3 mm rated distance is the standard answer for position verification inside machinery: the embeddable build means the sensing face can sit flush with a steel bracket — no recess to machine, no bracket contact to false-trigger — while 3 mm is enough reach to see a cam, a dog or a home-position flag through a film of cutting fluid. The PNP NO output sources current to the PLC input when metal is seen, the wiring convention of European control panels, and the three-conductor M8 connector means replacement is a plug-swap: no stripped leads, no terminal work, just unplug and re-plug into the existing cordset. Contrinex is the Swiss specialist whose whole business is this sensor class, and the detail on these units shows it — the stainless barrel turned full-thread for fine positioning, the small vent hole at the face end, and the data card that prints the wiring diagram and the Class 2 circuit listing right where the installer will read it.
