Russian SHZPU Riot Helmet — Size L 59-60 cm (OMON / FSB Pattern)
SHZPU · Steel Riot Helmet · Size L 59-60 cm · Adjacent Security / MRO
The SHZPU (ШЗПУ — Shlem Zashchitnyy Politsiyskiy Universalnyy, "Universal Police Protective Helmet")
is a heavy-duty steel body-armour / riot helmet of Russian / Soviet-era design, widely issued to
OMON, FSB, correctional officers and licensed private security units. This listing covers
Size L (head circumference 59-60 cm), the most common adult tactical size.
Although the SHZPU itself is a security / defence item rather than an industrial-automation
module, KOEED sources it through the same China sourcing channel
that supports our Allen-Bradley,
Siemens,
Mitsubishi,
Omron,
Fanuc,
Schneider,
Yaskawa,
Panasonic and
KEYENCE
MRO lines — so security departments, plant safety officers and contract guarding teams can
consolidate PPE / safety-equipment procurement with their
industrial-automation
spares on one BOM, one invoice, one shipment.

1. Key Technical Specifications & Overview
The SHZPU is a single-piece deep-drawn ballistic shell with an internal padded suspension
liner, a four-point adjustable chin strap and (typically) a bolt-on polycarbonate visor.
The size-L shell covers a 59-60 cm head circumference, which corresponds to roughly
85 % of adult male wearers in Caucasian, East-Asian and South-Asian populations; smaller
(S — 55-58 cm) and larger (XL — 61-63 cm) shells can be
sourced on the same MOQ and shipped together.

2. Application Scenarios & Where It Fits
The SHZPU was engineered for the same use cases as modern NIJ III-A public-order helmets:
crowd-control, riot response, VIP close-protection, prison transport and perimeter defence
in high-risk industrial zones. KOEED supplies it primarily to four buyer profiles that
already maintain
Allen-Bradley,
Siemens or
Mitsubishi
lines on their maintenance BOM, so they can ride an existing freight lane and the same
customs broker.
- Plant security & access-control teams guarding oil & gas, mining and metallurgical sites that already run Schneider Modicon or Yaskawa drives on the process line.
- Contract guarding companies serving automotive, battery and electronics factories that operate Fanuc robots and Panasonic PLCs on shift.
- Correctional, transport and critical-infrastructure facilities using Omron or KEYENCE safety / vision systems for perimeter monitoring.
- Private security, training academies and licensed firearms clubs that need a GOST-rated, low-cost public-order helmet for routine drills and live exercises.
- Government, UN and NGO procurement offices sourcing adjacent personal protective equipment (PPE) through the same vendor that supplies their PLC and CNC spare parts.
Please note: the SHZPU is a steel, blunt-impact / fragment-stopping riot helmet, not a
ballistic combat helmet. It is suitable for public-order and training roles. If you need
rifle-rated protection, ask us about NIJ III / IV alternatives.
3. Integration & Fitting Notes (with Adjacent MRO Equipment)
The SHZPU itself is a passive, mechanical PPE item — there is no electronics harness
inside. "Integration" here means pairing the helmet with the body-worn and site-wide
systems a B2B buyer is most likely already deploying on the same contract.
| Two-way radio headset |
Inner cradle leaves clearance for over-ear PTT / boom-mic; pair with the radio stack you already use at the control room — see Mitsubishi comms spares for reference layouts. |
| Body camera / radio mount |
Standard M-LOK-style side rails are not factory-fitted; aftermarket adhesive or clamp mounts can be added on request. Coordinate cabling through the chin-strap channel. |
| Visor & gas-mask combo |
The lift-up polycarbonate visor clears most full-face respirators and GP-5 / PMK-series gas masks used by security teams. |
| Lighting / IR marker |
Velcro patch on the rear of the shell accepts standard ID / IR tabs used by access-control sites that already run KEYENCE vision gates. |
| Body-armour & load-bearing vest |
Helmet collar is shaped to clear the standing collar of common Russian / Soviet-style body armour (6B5, 6B12, 6B23) and modern plate carriers. |
| Storage / rack |
Stackable; matches the footprint of standard steel helmet racks used in Allen-Bradley / Siemens control-cabinet storage rooms. |
4. Inspection, Sizing & Commissioning Tips
Although the SHZPU is far simpler to commission than a ControlLogix rack or
a SIMATIC station,
we still recommend a short acceptance routine on every batch — especially when a
container is split between multiple wearers or sites.
-
Measure first. Use a soft tape across the brow, just above the ears. Size L fits 59-60 cm. If the wearer is on the boundary, order one size up and use the foam-pad shim kit to take up slack.
-
Inspect the shell. Look for paint chips, dents deeper than 0.5 mm, hairline cracks around the rim and any corrosion bloom. The factory phosphate + paint finish is robust, but sea-freight humidity can still mark unwrapped stock.
-
Check the inner cradle. Foam pads should be flat, the four-point chin strap intact, the buckle free of nicks. Replace the inner liner before issuing to a new wearer — hygiene matters in hot-climate sites.
-
Fit the visor. Bolt the polycarbonate shield to the front lugs with the supplied M5 stainless hardware. Torque by hand only — over-tightening cracks the shield lugs.
-
Shake-test. With the chin strap fastened, the helmet should sit squarely on the head and not slide forward or back when the wearer nods hard. A shifting helmet in the first shake-test means the liner needs re-padding.
-
Log the serial. Stamp or engrave a buyer-specific ID (e.g. GUARD-A-023) on the rear of each shell. KOEED can laser-etch your asset tags at the sourcing stage on container-load orders.
-
Plan a 5-year retirement. Steel shells are tough but the paint, foam and strap degrade. KOEED recommends a hard retirement after 5 years of active service or after any significant impact, whichever comes first.
For buyers who already use our
AI Diagnostic Tool
to identify obsolete PLC modules, the same tool can read a clear photograph of the
helmet's data plate and confirm size code, manufacture year and original rating.
5. Procurement, Warranty & Lead Time
KOEED runs the SHZPU through the same five-step procurement workflow that backs our PLC
and CNC contracts. There are no fixed price tags on this site — the helmet is quoted
against your size mix, quantity, destination and any required end-user paperwork.
| MOQ |
10 helmets per size code (mixed sizes allowed in the same shipment) |
| Lead Time (in stock) |
7-15 business days, worldwide shipping via DHL / FedEx / UPS or sea freight on container-load orders |
| Lead Time (factory build) |
30-45 business days for custom RAL colour, asset-tag etching or 500+ unit orders |
| Warranty |
12 months against manufacturing defects on the shell, visor hardware and inner liner; see Return Policy for terms |
| Quality Inspection |
