Q: How should I wire the auxiliary contacts (95/96 and 97/98)?

A: The Normally Closed (NC) contacts, typically terminals 95 and 96, must be wired in series with your magnetic contactor's coil circuit. When an overload occurs, these contacts open, dropping the power to the coil and stopping the motor. The Normally Open (NO) contacts, terminals 97 and 98, close during an overload and are used to send a fault signal to a PLC or illuminate a red warning light on your control panel.

Q: The motor tripped on overload, but pressing the reset button does nothing. Why?

A: A thermal overload relay operates on physical heat. The internal bimetallic strips must be given several minutes to cool down and return to their original shape before the mechanical latch can be reset. Q: Why does the relay trip immediately during motor startup, even though the running current is normal?

A: Standard overload relays are typically "Class 10," meaning they will trip in 10 seconds or less at 600% of their setting. If you are starting a high-inertia load (like a massive industrial fan or centrifuge), the motor draws high starting current (inrush) for longer than 10 seconds.
