AMBLYGON TA 15/2 vs FUCHS RENOLIT HLT 2: high-temperature grease comparison

AMBLYGON TA 15/2 or FUCHS RENOLIT HLT 2?

Both are adhesive long-term greases for high-temperature points, and neither is documented for incidental food contact. AMBLYGON TA 15/2 (Klüber article 020109) is a mineral oil grease with polyurea thickener, used for long-term or lifetime lubrication of bearings and joints in machine building, from -20 to +150 °C, with strong adhesion and resistance to hot and cold water plus diluted alkaline and acid solutions. RENOLIT HLT 2 (Fuchs) is a fully synthetic PAO grease with lithium soap thickener, classified KPHC2N-40, from -40 to +140 °C, positioned for lifetime lubrication including pneumatic applications. Choose by temperature ceiling, cold start and media; if the point needs an H1 lubricant, neither qualifies and a food-grade range should be specified instead.

Corrections to common descriptions

Earlier comparison pages have described these two products as food-grade greases with NSF H1, Halal and Kosher credentials, and have listed TA 15/2 as a lithium soap grease. The published documents say otherwise on both counts. Klüber's product information for AMBLYGON TA 15/2 names a polyurea thickener and carries no food registration; the FUCHS product page for RENOLIT HLT 2 names a lithium soap thickener on PAO and lists no food registration either. If a lubrication point requires H1 documentation, for example above open product in a food plant, specify a product from an H1 registered range and verify it in the current NSF White Book.

Where each is documented in use

Klüber documents AMBLYGON TA 15/2 for bearings and joints subject to high temperatures and loads, with adhesion as a working property that also improves sealing at the point. Named applications: conveyors, rotary tubular kilns, water pumps, hot rollers, tarmac laying machines, gate valves and seals, plus joints, hinges, king pins, washing machines and dishwashers, and the impact mechanisms of power tools. It is compatible with mineral-oil-resistant elastomer seals, and Klüber recommends checking elastomer compatibility under real conditions before series use.

Fuchs positions RENOLIT HLT 2 as a thermally and mechanically stable synthetic grease with good elastomer compatibility, suitable for lifetime lubrication, including pneumatic applications. Its PAO base oil covers cold starts to -40 °C, which the mineral-oil TA 15/2 does not claim.

Example: two high-temperature points in one plant

A rotary kiln's support roller bearing runs at 120 °C with dust and vibration, and the point is greased on a fixed schedule: TA 15/2's documented territory, adhesion plus 150 °C ceiling. A pneumatic cylinder pin near a paint oven needs lifetime lubrication and sees winter starts at -30 °C: HLT 2's documented territory, PAO cold behaviour and lifetime positioning. Neither point is inside a food hygiene zone, which is just as well, since neither product carries one.

Changing between them

The thickener families differ (polyurea versus lithium soap) and the base oils differ more (mineral versus PAO). Treat a change in either direction as a purge: drain the old grease as completely as practical, work fresh grease into the point until the old product is displaced, and only then start the interval clock. Klüber additionally recommends an elastomer compatibility check with TA 15/2 before series application, which is worth repeating whenever the grease in a sealed assembly changes.

Common questions

Is either of these a food-grade grease?

Neither product information documents NSF H1 registration. Where incidental food contact is possible, use an H1 registered product such as Klüberfood NH1 94-301 or SKF LGFP 2, and verify the registration in the current NSF White Book.

Which one takes the higher temperature?

AMBLYGON TA 15/2 publishes an upper service temperature of 150 °C against HLT 2's 140 °C, with a drop point of at least 220 °C behind it. At the cold end the order reverses: HLT 2 documents -40 °C against TA 15/2's -20 °C. The overlap band between -20 and +140 °C is where the choice follows adhesion, media and relubrication style instead of temperature.

Which one sticks better to vertical surfaces?

Adhesion is the headline property of AMBLYGON TA 15/2: Klüber documents excellent adhesion and an improved sealing effect from it, with named uses on gate valves and seals. HLT 2 is described as thermally and mechanically stable with good elastomer compatibility, without an adhesion claim on the cited page.

Can TA 15/2 replace HLT 2 on a pneumatic application?

Check two things first: the cold-start temperature, because TA 15/2's documented floor is -20 °C, and the equipment maker's specification, because lifetime-lubricated pneumatic points are usually designed around a specific grease. If both check out, a purge changeover with interval restart is the documented path.

What relubrication do these products suit?

Both are long-term greases rather than frequent-top-up products. TA 15/2 is documented for long-term or lifetime lubrication in machine building; HLT 2 is positioned for lifetime lubrication including pneumatic applications. For scheduled points, follow the machine builder's interval and adjust from measured temperature and wear, not from habit.
