  • Mounting — thread the M18 barrel through a 18 mm hole and secure with the supplied pair of jam nuts. Do not over-tighten: typical torque is 15-20 N·m on brass housings to avoid thread deformation.
  • Flush vs. non-flush — confirm the variant on the nameplate. A non-flush sensor embedded in metal will see its sensing distance collapse; use the flush variant when the head will be surrounded by a steel bracket.
  • Target material — inductive sensors are calibrated against mild steel. The effective sensing distance on stainless steel, aluminum, or copper drops by a correction factor (1.0x steel, ~0.7-0.9x stainless, ~0.4-0.5x aluminum / copper) — oversize the sensor or shorten the trip distance accordingly.
  • Approach direction — approach the active face axially (head-on) for the rated sensing distance. Side-approach reduces range and can produce hysteresis chatter on light targets.
  • LED indicator — the on-body LED lights when the output is active. Use it for a quick bench test with a steel target (a wrench works) before powering the PLC input.
  • Ingress protection — IP67 means temporary immersion, not continuous submersion. Avoid installing where the connector or cable gland sits in pooled coolant or oil.
  • EMI / wiring — if the line is in a Yaskawa Σ-7 / Panasonic Minas servo cabinet, keep sensor wiring in a separate duct at least 100 mm from the drive output cables and cross them at 90° if they must intersect.
