Novotechnik LWH-0300 Linear Transducer — 300 mm Stroke, Resistive Position Output
Novotechnik · LWH Series · Linear Position Transducer · New in Box · 1PC
The Novotechnik LWH-0300 (also catalogued as LWH 300, LWH0300 and LWH300) is a German-engineered resistive
linear position transducer
built on Novotechnik’s long-running LWH film-potentiometer platform. With a 300 mm electrical stroke, an industry-standard
1 kΩ nominal resistance element, and a robust anodized aluminium housing, the LWH-0300 is purpose-built for position
feedback in harsh industrial environments. Each unit is offered in New in Box (NiB) condition and ships as a
single piece (1PC), ready for drop-in installation on hydraulic systems, machine tools, and process machinery. The passive
voltage-divider output drives the analog-input cards used across
Allen-Bradley,
Siemens,
Mitsubishi,
Omron,
Fanuc,
Schneider,
Yaskawa,
Panasonic and
KEYENCE controllers without protocol translation.

Application Scenarios — Where the LWH-0300 Fits
The LWH-0300 is widely deployed in industrial-automation plants that need a long-stroke analog position signal rather than a
digital fieldbus reading. Typical use cases include:
- Hydraulic-cylinder position feedback on
injection-molding machines,
hydraulic presses, and large-bore material-handling cylinders
- Slide and ram travel monitoring on stamping presses, forging presses, and tube-bending machines
- Spindle, knee, and saddle travel readouts on
CNC machine tools
such as lathes, milling machines, and boring mills
- Damper, gate, and valve-stroke feedback on process-control skids where 4–20 mA or 0–10 V re-transmit is not available
- Servo-hydraulic and electro-mechanical actuator position verification in test rigs and production-line dynamometers
- Web-tension and dancer-position feedback on paper, film, foil, and textile converting lines
- Mobile and stationary crane outrigger or boom-extension measurement when paired with the IP67 sealed connector option
Because the LWH-0300 produces a passive resistive divider, it is fully compatible with the analog-input cards used by every
major controller family — from
Allen-Bradley 1756-IF8H modules and
Siemens SM 331 AI inputs to
Mitsubishi Q68ADI,
Omron CP1W-AD041,
Fanuc A03B-0807 I/O, Schneider BMXAMI0810, Yaskawa SGDV-OSG01, Panasonic FP0-A21, and
KEYENCE NU-EP1 — making it an ideal
drop-in for retrofit and brownfield service work across the
full nine-brand KOEED catalog.
Integration & Wiring Notes
The LWH-0300 exposes three internal terminals: the wiper (signal), the start of the resistance track (+V), and the end of the
track (GND). The recommended wiring pattern is:
- Connect +V to a stable 5 V DC to 30 V DC excitation. A 10 V reference is the most common supply because it
gives a 0–10 V raw output that maps 1:1 to roughly 1 V per 30 mm of stroke.
- Connect GND to the controller’s analog common.
- Route the wiper directly to a high-impedance analog input (≥ 10 MΩ). The wiper circuit draws only microamps,
so a long cable run is acceptable — but use shielded twisted pair and ground the shield at the controller end to reject
EMI from VFDs and contactors.
- For installations that need a 4–20 mA signal, add an external voltage-to-current converter such as the Phoenix
Contact MINI MCR, the WAGO 857, or any equivalent 0–10 V → 4–20 mA transmitter. Use the
KOEED PLC Analog Calculator
to convert the raw mV reading into engineering units (mm, cm, in, or percent stroke).
For multi-axis systems, route each transducer on its own shielded cable and avoid running the LWH cable parallel to servo
power lines (for example Yaskawa Sigma-V motor leads) for more than 1 m. The Deutsch DT or M12 connector variants of the
LWH ship with IP67 sealing; the cable-gland version is IP54 and should be mounted with the gland facing downward to keep
cutting fluid and condensation out of the housing. Engineers standardising on a single brand of controller can browse the
Allen-Bradley analog-input family
or the
Siemens SIMATIC S7-1500 AI modules
to find the matching add-on card for this transducer.
Installation & Commissioning Tips
The LWH-0300 mounts via two swivel-clamp brackets on the body and a rod-end tip on the moving wiper. The recommended mounting
sequence is:
-
Anchor the body. Fix the body bracket to a rigid machine surface — typically the cylinder end cap,
the press frame, or the machine-tool slide — using M6 or M8 socket-head fasteners. Verify the bracket is parallel to
the axis of motion to within ±0.5° to avoid side-loading the wiper.
-
Connect the rod end. Link the threaded tip to the moving member (piston rod, press ram, machine slide).
Use a self-aligning rod end or a small clevis pin to absorb angular misalignment.
-
Sweep-test the output. Apply the supply voltage, then manually sweep the wiper through full stroke while
monitoring the output on the controller’s analog-input diagnostics page. The output should be a smooth, monotonic
ramp with no dead-band at either end. A small flat zone (≤ 0.5 mm) at each end is normal and corresponds to the
electrical de-bounce region of the potentiometric track.
-
Calibrate zero and full-scale. Calibrate the zero and full-scale points in the PLC or CNC program. The
KOEED PLC Hex to Float Converter
is a convenient utility for converting the raw A/D counts (for example 0–27648 on a Siemens S7-1500 AI module, or
0–32767 on an Allen-Bradley 1756-IF8H) back into millimetre or inch units. If the controller throws an analog-input
fault, the
PLC Error Code Database
can help interpret the diagnostic word.
-
Final lock-up. Lock the connector and apply thread-locking compound to the rod-end jam nut to prevent
loosening under vibration. Pull-test the cable strain relief by hand before powering the machine.
For environments with frequent wash-down or oil splash, specify the IP67 sealed connector option rather than the IP54
cable-gland version, and route the cable into a flex-rated cable carrier (Igus E-chain or equivalent). Plants that run
mixed-brand fleets can review the broader
position-sensor and linear-transducer
inventory before committing to a single supplier.
